VANCOFYER, B.C. � The joyous 1 !>'">�'> edition of the Vancouver J CCA Niseis, the pride and j-y of the local Japanese Canadian �community, celebrated its viit> ry ami a very successful sjttsen with- the presentation >f trophies, and u banquet Friday, Sept. 1$. Held at the New W.K, Chop 'Suey in the heart of downtown Chinatown Under the capable chairmanship of Jiro Miya-2a\va, business manager of the "Niseis", .tho function was attended by both players and guests '.numbering''more than fifty.'.
A tea in which hit t he jack-po( in its third year of competition in the strong six-team Industrial Union-Baseball League, the Vancouver J CCA Niseis copped the league championship AiTg, 30 defeating the powerful Catholic Youth Organization team, comprised of many of the'1952'Boiler* maker stars, four games to two.
''Highlighting the banquet was the presentation of the Industrial Union Baseball League Batting Champ Trophy to Seiichi Tahara, the hard-hitting "Niseis." shortstop, by Eli Leehance, Secretary, of the Industrial League. Awarded the. top-hitting.- trophy for -the second consecutive time, Tahara. maintained an average of .347.

and a recheck by the League was necessary prior to his winning the crown again, having just nosed out by a single hit his team-mate. Capt. Mush Uyesugi, who had his best season both offensively and defensively since joining the ��Niseis"., from the Tabor Firemen in 1952.
Eli Lachance praised the "Niseis" for their fine sportsmanship cn and off the field during the entire season. SoijiHomma, president of the local JCCA, the sponsor of the team, also congratulated the '�Niseis" for their performance.
To conclude the presentation, each player of the champion ;'Ni-sets", comprised- entirely of Japanese Canadian With the exception of lion Montgomery, the workhorse of the "Niseis" pitching staff 'during the past two seasons,;: and each executive member of the "1953 Niseis", namely general manager Nobby Fujisawa, local Siin Life, representative, business, manager Miyazawa, coaches Na-katsu and Ikeda, and JCCA president Seiji H omnia were prcr sented with the team jackets. Also awarded was Mamoru Yabe, ex-Magrath E vac's star, pitcher, who coached the up-and-coming youngsters in the local juvenile league this season into the semifinals, where they defaulted to the opposition due to many of the stringers leaving for work.

Nisei Rugby Team Off to Fine Start
Playing their first game Saturday, Sept! 19, the-Nisei Sooners of the T 0 r o n t o Kiwi; Rugby league took last year's champs, Bams, for 12-1 win at High Park.

Shirley Tonaka Hits High Triple of 818
, The second week of the Toronto Nisei Mixed Major Bowling League gave out some promising results in the new surroundings of the Olympia Edward's Bowling Academy Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20, as Shirley Tanaka came through with a high triple, of 818 and a single of 352 to top the league's scoring for the day.
Other high scorers in the fairer sex were dinger Terakita with 74G(2(U) ai)d Chic Yanagisawa -with G44. The second high singles hi the ladies division was rolled out by Barbara Shimizu who got 2S4. .,���';'..:'
Outstanding in the men's division, were Lsa Furnkawa with 700, Terry Fuji ok a 746 and Harry Inouye 745. Harry Inouye_J.cd in the men's high singles with 352, followed by Hideo Takaha-shi's 315, Isa Furukawa's 303 and Sumi Sora's 302. :

EDMONTON, Alta. � The newly-installeti Albt^rta JCCA Challenge Trophy, emblematic of Alberta Japanese golf supremacy, was captured by Hon Matsuba as he; played'his usual steady game to emerge as winner of the Alberta Japanese Golf Toumamen*.
The 1953 edition of the Albtlrta Japanese Golf Association's Annual Tournament got underway as scheduled as 5 o'clock risers toed off in fotirsonies into the bright and dewy morning of Sunday, Sept. 0. day night, Sept, 22. The Jewellers had gotten off to an early lead in the first inning when Jessie Duffy slammed out a double with the bases loaded, scoring three runs, and then scoring herself on Amy Hisaki's ground-out. .
Browns, however, came back-strongly with two runs in the fourth and two more in the.sixth to tie the game. In the crucial seventh, up'to which pitcher Jes: sic Duffy had kept the Browns to two hits, the Browns connected with.a series of powerful hits, which coupled with errors on. the part of the Jeweller girls, were good for five runs, bringing the score to 9-4.
Big bats-for'Dafris'-were Amy Hisaki, Mary Mcintosh. and Pat' Wright with two hits each to their credit, -. Kathy. Seo; who had set a record for walking this season prior to her leaving on her holidays, was given four free passes to first in as many times at bat.
