Thanks for letting us know, but we cannot come."
How approprはtelけwas the memory of the past which brought the people together. Perhaps the Reunion should have been held10 years ear' ller so people like the aged gentleman from Ontario could have attended.
The host, B.C. Co m mけtee, had the Saturday evening program well organはed. Sharky K Ob ay ash i capably handled the MC duties. Tom Endo, the driving force behind the Org* anizing Committee, gave the welcome address Including reading of messages from premier B川Bennett and the mayor of Richmond. A minute of silence was observed to honour those who have gone, and Mas Kosaka then proposed a toast. Dick Kadonaga and Herby KoyanagI made presentations to people over 80, and gけts were also given to dゅtant travellers, including a former Celtic Japanese teacher who travelled from Japan, and to the Nakamlchls who journeyed from Hawaii and Okinawa.
Aけle Kamけakahara was the after-dinner MC, in charge of 6nt6rt3i師6nt. Hs 3mus6d and entertained the audience with his.humorous anecdotes of the past Cannery events and people, as well as wけh his vocal talents.
Yes, Karaoke has also invaded Vancouver, and the talent for the evening's entertainment was endless.は included renditions by sensei Jim and Mrs. Nasu, Bl" Ishl.

The weatherman co-operated for the Sunday morning salmon barbecue. The group assembled on Sea Island under a clear blue sky and a picturesque view of the Gulf Island and the North Vancouver mountains. Where A cm 8 and Vsmcouvw cainnか lies once existed Is now a restricted area. However, the AけSea Rescue Unit of the Department of Transport was most ho spけable In permitting entry to the former cannery sけe. Very Httle,ばanything, Is left to indicate the old home sけe for the whole area has been absorbed by the Vane Oliver International Air. port. Only the creosted pilings along the Fraser remain as a memory to the past. As the old gentleman from Ontario said, "there is nothing, only a barren landscape".
The salmon barbecue was superb! Tりe committee members went out of theけway to loyally treat each and every visはor to a most unforgettable feast. The morning was ideal, not only for photography, but to further renew ac* qualntances and to exchange sentimental thoughts of the past-Yet, it was the memories which brought the people together for the August Reunion. In spけe of the tragedy and hardships of wartime evacuation, W6 are fur tun ate that deep inside of us we all have a memory and a dream which we can still share to day.
Th6 R6union was 3 succ6ss. CcHTiments such as "the best Reunion ever,' echoed throughout as the party broke up and each went his own way. So successful was the Reunion that already there is talk of another, this time in Ontario, perhaps in three
year's time.
