LION'S GATE LODGE, B'nai B'rilJi . . . Wives of Lion's Gate Lodge members met on February 16, informally, to discuss the formation of a ladies' auxiliary to the Lodge. Elections will be held at a meeting on March 16 at the home of Mrs. Sybill Gordon, 462 East 59th Ave. The plans of the Ladies' Auxiliary are to work together with Lion's Gate Lodge in all the nipst important projects, which will benefit the community at large. Contributions to welfare funds or , other Jewish community fund-raising drives will be eligible for income tax deduction in 1950 on the same basis as in 1949, according to a recent announceftient by Sa.ul Hayes, national executive director of the Canadian Jewish Con-giess. This ruling also applies to the United Jewish Appeal campaign in Vancouver, which finances the local Jewish Welfare Fund,
These arrangements for income tax deductions were made by Con-gi'ess with the Department of National Revenue at Ottawa. Deductions for such contributions will be allowed even where some of the beneficiaries are themselves not entitled to deductions.
Israel's Second Anniversary Vfill be Observed April 22
TEL AVIV—(ISI)—The second anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel will fall this year on Saturday, April 22, corfespbhdlhg to the H^ date, the fifth of lyar. Since the anniversai-y occurs on the Sabbath, celebrations will take place on the nig;ht of April 22 and throughout Sunday, April 23. • • • The State was proclaimed on May 14, 1948, but last year the anniversary was observed in accordance with the Hebrew calendar oh May 4, and this year the custom set in 1949 will be maintained. ■

With greater goals to achieve in reconstruction, and rehabilitation in Israel, the Histadrut has launched this year its largest, appeal for funds to achieve these ends.
Having this in mind, Habonim answers this call with announcement of a Self-Denial Week, from March 12-19, for all its members.
During this week members will be approached to participate in the campaign by giving up one week's allowance, or for those working- a' day's wagfeis.
All other youth in the city should also take part in this important task by making their denial week a week in which they actively participate in the reconstruction of Israel.
