THE POPCOBN INVASION was only one of ni^ny novelties at. the Schara Tzedeck Fair last Sunday which witnessed the biggest turnout of any affair at the synagogue within recent memory . . . The free show for the kiddies in the afternoon included Sam Budner's puppet troupe, a magician, and three year old acrobat, Cathy Steele. There was also free ice cream for the children, as well as popcorn, handed out: by a real live Stanley Park popcorn man, imported for the occasion . . In tbe evening the adults also had their share of fun arid the affair was an all-round success for everyone concerned . • The Schara Tzedeck Men's CSub, which sponsored this - affair, is-in the midst of its most active season in sevei-al years.- .. Without even a weekend breather, we hear that the Men's Club members will be standing treat to the younger set again this Saturday evening wheri they ' provide refreshments and prizes for the Schara Tzedeck Purlin CamdvaL

If the stimiilation created by "It's Hard to be a Jew" within the workshop itself is any indication of the audience's reaction^. the .efforts wil indeed be well rewarded. Numerous topics uncovered in the analysis of the script have been discussed, and jhardly a rehearsal goes by, of late, jwithout a lively argument or two.
One of the more important points ;taken up .is; the^ question; of the' timeliness of lithis play. Some have ifelt that subsequent events in Hitler jGermanyi-with Regard to the Jewis; ihaver somewhat paled those sittia-itions which arose in' Shblom Alei-chem'g time. A little deeper thought ^however reveals that the later catastrophe vlras the outcome' ef a similar situation such as existed in the days of the CJzar, '
The play, for instance, deals with the hdirdships of a young qualified Jewish student, in entering a university, and the lengths to which he must go in order to be able to study. If there. is any doubt., in anyone's, mind as.-to the timeliness of this topic, they can be, quickly shown that in. many universities to-, day, there is a "gentleman's agreement" as to a quota to be placed on Jewish applications toy entrance. And the law prohibiting Jews from living outside the "Pale" today has its cbunterpaft in "restricted area" riealty covenants. Our conclusions must therefore be that the play is most timely. : %
BACKSTAGE: Those definitely cast in their roles to date are Gloria Steinberg, Bernie Frohman, Oscar bsipov', -David Pellin, Natet Wiseman, Searl Friedman, Val Warren and Sam Malkin. Casting will be completed by March 6 . . . the backstage crew is now in the process of organization. "There is still time for anyone interested in. this aspect of the Workshop to join the _rank8 .... schedule continues as before, Mondays, Tuesdays dnd Thursdays, at 8;30, top floor of the Peretz School.
