critically acclaimed "The Call is Freedom" is still only available as an import, but worth the effort to order.
The trip from Vancouver to Edmonton through the mountains was, in his words, "mind boggling," and a little further than a trip from Glasgow to Edinburgh. Capitol Records has just announced that the greatest band in Scotland will have their entire catalogue released in Canada.
Runrig's recording will be finally available, and with a little luck we will see them doing a tour next year. Their newest, "The Big Wheel," has a good chance with the single "HeartHammer" leading the charge. If you don't know the band, stay tuned to these pages for an interview I conducted with Donnie Munro of the group.
Martin Simpson should be hitting town soon with his superb guitar artistry. Don't miss him if you have a chance to hear his wonderfully produced acoustic instrumental release, "When I Was on Horseback."
After this summer, the band that was the hands-down winner in the most dynamic and exciting stage show was Alias Ron Kavana, who literally walked off the stage and was booked for next year's festival.
Also caught live and table dancing was the not so dynamic, Rogue Folker Steve Edge. It was said that his little exhibition caused several people in the crowd to cancel plans to move to Vancouver, not a sight for the weak at heart.
Don't forget to listen to The Edge on Folk on Saturday mornings on CITR, 101.9 FM in Vancouver, at 8 AM to 12 noon, for updated concert information and an interview with Ron Kavana conducted by yours truly. Best to you 'till next time.
