Promoting British Trade and Business
By MAURA McCAY VANCOUVER — The British Canadian Chamber of Trade and Commerce (BCCTC) held its annual Members' Garden Party at the British Consul General's residence in West Point Grey. Ian Kydd and his wife Louise were gracious hosts for the event which brought together a gathering of about 80 people on a glorious Saturday afternoon in August.
Each year, the Chamber presents Simon Fraser University a monetary award for an essay on British history. This year's winner was student Angela Hopkins whose work entitled: "Transforming the Parish and paying the players: Ritual and drama in the Churchwardens' accounts," was based on the Reformation in England.
The BCCTC has a strong membership across Canada with its national office located in Toronto and principal divisional offices in Montreal and Vancouver. Its main purpose is the promotion of the trans-Atlantic business interests of its members. It maintains close ties with Chambers throughout Britain through its association with the Canada-United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce.
