ISSC Enjoy End of Season Barbeque
VANCOUVER — Paul Stack, President of the Vancouver Irish Sporting and Social Club hosted a summer barbeque for the Vancouver Harps, women and men's soccer teams. As usual, a good time was had by all with the craic, stories, songs, music and camaraderie.
It was also a time to say goodbye to visiting Irish and Scottish students who had joined the games and fun over the summer and were now heading back to University at home.
Mark Rogers of Dublin; John Reddy of Dublin; Kevin Peters of Kil-dare; Rory Connolly of Glasgow; Paul Ritchie of Glasgow; John Atherton of Glasgow; and Fraser MacLeod of Glasgow, have all promised to return next year to take up where they left off.

Old Friends Reconnect in Ireland
By PAT FINNERTY
VANCOUVER — During the month of June, I spent a month vacationing in Ireland. I was accompanied by my oldest son Douglas who had never before been to Ireland.
When we arrived in Dublin, we set out to enjoy ourselves. We toured Dublin on an open double decker bus. If you want to see Dublin, this is the way to do it as you can get off or on the bus as often as you like.
We visited Trinity College, where we had a look at the book of Kells and toured Temple Bar and the many sights around there. We had lunch at the tourist office which was formerly a church.
We toured Guinness's Brewery and had a couple pints in their beautiful pub on Saint James Street. And, a couple of days later, we went for a tour of John Jameson's distillery where we enjoyed their famous whisky.
Finally, we headed to Athenry, County Galway, where I am from. We stopped and spent a couple of days in Salthill. I noticed many changes in the area, with many hotels and new houses being built.
We toured Connemara, the Aran Islands (Inish More), the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare. We also toured Bunratty Castle and of course, we paid a visit to "Durty Nellies" right beside the Castle.
We really enjoyed ourselves. But all good things must come to an end. Douglas only had two weeks vacation, so we headed back to Dublin. We were in the area of the O'Connell Bridge and I was looking around for the street number of a store.
I glanced up, only to find myself staring face-to-face at ex-Vancouverites and Gaelic football players David Moyles and Brooke Foley.
We didn't say much, since we all laughing so hard, we couldn't get any words out. They were on their way to Loudon, and then onwards to Australia.
We shook hands all around and I wished them the best of luck in their new endeavors "Down Under." It realty is a small world.
