THE CLUMSY LOVERS
Still Clumsy After All These Years
Hard to believe the Clumsy Lovers are seven years gigging but that's what the liner notes say. And to celebrate the event, the Clumsy Lovers have released a compilation CD with CD-Rom video footage.
The disc features six new tracks and combines the best of their other four CD's. Their CD's released to date are, Six Million Dollar Band, Picture This, Barnburne, Live'., and Still Clumsy After All These Years.
The band plays about 200 shows each year, touring regularly throughout Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, Colorado, B.C. and Alberta. They've developed a steady diet of nightclubs, concert halls, universities and music festivals.
The Clumsy Lovers describe their music as "Raging Bluegrass Rock," playing a mix of fiddle-fuelled supercharged folk-rock. Members are Brad Gillard on banjo and vocals; Cam Jonat on drums and percussion; Chris Jonat on bass guitar and vocals; Andrea Lewis on fiddle and vocals; and Trevor Rogers on vocals, guitar, mandolin and harmonica.
My personal favourites on the new compilation were on album one: TheBoycot Set, Lord Of The Dance, and The Shakespeare Song. On album two: Mist-Covered Mountains, Paddy's Leather Breeches/Banjo Breakdown, Jesus Christ, Don't Think Twice. It's Alright, Let The Sun Shine In, Will The Circle Be Unbroken.

ANDY IRVINE Way Out Yonder
Andy Irvine has the ideal lineage for extending the traditional music of the British Isles. Born in London in 1942 to a Scottish father and Irish mother, Andy's initial musical interest in jazz and stage music shifted to skiffle, a folk/jugband sound popular in Great Britain in the early Sixties.
He learned to play the classical guitar in his teens, and his skills grew to encompass the songs of Woody Guthrie and the traditional music of his homeland.
Moving to Dublin, Ireland in 1962, Andy joined the city's folk circuit, and in 1966 formed Sweeney's Men with fellow young musicians Johnny Moynihan and Joe Dolan.
Sweeney's Men has been called "the formative electric folk band - the first purist folk band in the British Isles to involve themselves in electric music," pre-dat-ing Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span by several years.
During its two years of existence, the group helped ignite an interest in traditional Irish music and recorded two successful singles, including Old Maid In The Garret, a Number One hit version of a traditional ballad sung by Andy.
In 1968, Andy left the band and made his first trip "way out yonder," living as a street musician in Bulgaria, Romania and Yugoslavia and absorbing their musical traditions.
Returning to Ireland, Irvine performed on his own and with others, eventually uniting with the legendary Christy Moore, Donal Lunny and Liam O'Flynn to form Planxty.
Irvine also worked and recorded with Paul Brady and the great Scottish musician Dick Gaughan. He also had a brief membership in the band De Dannan.
Andy Irvine is now a member of the group Patrick Street and tours and records with them, while maintaining his own career as a solo performer and recording artist.
Tracks on Way Out Yonder are: Gladiators, Moreton Bay, They'll Never Believe It's TruelFroggy's Jig, The Girl I Left Behind, Way Out Yonder, The Highwayman, When The Boys Are On Parade, On A Distant Shore, and Born in Carrickfcrgus.
