VANCOUVER-BASED Celtic folk group Blackthorn will help Societe francophone de Maillardville celebration the 100th anniversary of Maillardville at a New Year's Eve party on December 31.
VANCOUVER - Everyone is invited to help kick-off the 100th anniversary of Maillardville - a unique French community nestled within the City of Coquitlam and the only identifiable French settlement west of the Rockies.
Enjoy the traditional Celtic music group, Blackthorn, and the folk group from Quebec, Mauvais Sort
with friends and families at a special New Year's Eve party.
Blackthorn is a Vancouver (Canada)-based Celtic folk group whose repertoire celebrates the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland as well as folk music of English and French Canada.
The group was formed in 1988 and performed in local coffee houses and bars. Expanding their horizons since then, they now include large-scale concerts, festivals, parties and private functions throughout
western Canada and parts of the U.S.
Savour the melodies and intricately woven harmonies that bring this music to life in a new way, mixed with humour and above all else, fun.
Mauvais Sort presents contemporary arrangements to old time folk music. Traditional lyrics mixed with contemporary musical compositions and based on original stories of old folk rhythms, the group overrules all preconceived notions about Quebec traditional music.
Regrouping young talented musicians with little musical backgrounds, 'Mauvais Sort' has an unique musical style, proper to its generation.
They call their music: Folk'n'Roll! With their unbelievable vitality and a contagious joie de vivre, Mauvais Sort warms, uplifts, carries away, and knocks over its audience!
Beyond what you hear, the pleasure of the senses is pushed to the maximum with incessant motion, costumes, lights, dances, and special effects. Mauvais Sort occupies, adorns, and inhabits the entire stage.
The event will take place at Maillard Middle School, 1300 Rochester Avenue in Coquitlam on December 31, 2008 at 9 PM. Tickets are available for $25 for general admission, including party favours.
