Although the board of governors of the school has subsequently issued a statement through its lawyer denying the charge and terming the incident a regrettable misunderstaikUng, there are many who feel that the beautiful and talented Mrs. Dorothy Holt Hewitt must have felt she had some genuine basis for her charge—a charge supported by her husband*
What actually surprised us, though, was the international repercussions that an ihdident of this nature could and did arouse, including widespread indigxuition vetoemently expressed by the Canadian public at large.
Long have we resigned ourselvos to racial Issues, for they pop up with a steady regularity which makes us re-w||e that, while some splen|U pro-:gxt^s is being made, the race line is far from completely faded.
We raise this potgtiant reminder, not with the intention of stirring up raucous ballyhoo, but rather to point these things out in case some of our Chinese-CanaadSRn ivory tower dwellers have the idea that the era of racial millen-ium has arrived.
