the world a better place in which to live! It bespeaks hope for the few who are called upon to overpower the evil force' of the many! Chanukkah defines peace for all mankind as the goal of society and would have us adopt the motto of Zcchariah in this pursuit, "Not by might nor by power, but by My spirit, saith the Lord of Hosts."
Chanukkah doesn't have to be pampered. Its discipline is good. It needs proper exercise. Use it wisely and it will serve its worth to you and the world in which we live.

indulging ourselves in all the pleasures and luxuries which surround us in our over-abundant world of things, the still small voice of a simple observance of a minor holiday is stifled by the big noises of a screaming world. Chanukkah is pampered when gifts are indiscriminately showered on everyone without regard. Whereas, Chanukkah "gelt" (money). was once spent to help unfortunate folks who couldn't afford to buy Chanukkah lights, there is no longer the giving to the needy, only exchanging presents with people who really don't need them or hardly appreciate them in the context of the holiday.
Chanukkah is pampered when even an uncomplicated ritual which heightens responsibility in freedom is altogether ignored, and the light of liberty for all is extinguished by the huff and puff of undisciplined merriment which carries on undisturbed.
Chanukkah is pampered when the demand for religious and cultural integrity and diversity is squelched by ready submission to conformity's seducing hand, and the Jew becomes like everybody else who doesn't want to have anything particularly or spiritually unique to offer to the world.
Chanukkah still has a vital message to give to the world in terms of its spiritual content. It calls each individual to the duty of ensuring liberty for alL through democratic action: It commands the integrity of the Jew in his responsibility as co-partner with God for making
