ing stick. Place some of the filling along the edge of each slice and roll up like a jelly roll. Dip the rolled slice in the egg and milk mixture holding together with the fingers so as not to open it up. Fry in hot butter as for French toast. Turn it over on other side and brown. Serve hot with sour cream.

MOMENTS
two cups sifted pastry flour or one and three-quarters cup sifted all-purpose flour two teaspoons cream oF tartar one cup shortening
one egg
one teaspoon baking soda three-quarters teaspoon salt three-quarters cup brown sugar one teaspoon vanilla
chopped walnuts
Measure flour and sift with baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Cream shortening slightly in separate bowl and mix in brown sugar. Add beatefc egg. Sift in dry ingredients, about a third at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add vanilla. Mix in additional flour if necessary to make a dough which can be handled. Roll small portions of mixture into balls and coat each with nuts. Bake on greased cookie sheets in moderate oven, 350 degrees, for about twenty minutes.

NAPOLEON CAKE
one-quarter pound butter
two eggs
two cups flour
pinch of salt
one-half cup sugar two tablespoons sour cream two teaspoons baking powder one teaspoon vanilla
Cream butter^and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time and beat well after each. Add sour cream and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder, and salt which have been sifted together twice, and knead lightly till easy to handle. Divide dough into five parts. Roll each out thin on a floured board. Fit each part into a slightly greased nine-inch pie plqteL Bake _gt 375 degree$_till golden brown. T?emove and cool?
Filling
Melt twelve ounces of unsweetened chocolate and cool. Spread mixture between layers, and on top and sides of cake.
