Rabbi Brickner Delivers Inspiring Address
Renovatiph of the synagog chambers is now nearing coltlpletion'. The chambers have been completely; transformed. .Last week th.e three Collegiate classes, comprising over 100 pupils, organized into a club for literary and social purposes. Election of .officers will take place next Sunday. These young men and young women, fourteen to eighteen years of age," will-meet-at-the Comniunity House, 44 St. George Street, every Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, instead of at the synagog on Bond Street. This is due to the fact that the unusually large attendance of children at the Sunday School this year makes it necessary for the Collegiate Department to find rooms in some other location.
The Uptown Theatre last Monday
evening was given over to the Toronto
Lodge of .the Bnai Brith for a theatre
night which that organization was
giving in aid of the Free Loan and
Emergency Fund of the Federation of
Jewish Philanthropies. The event was
successful, about $7,500 being realized.
During the intermission between the
second and third acts* Rabbi Bridkner
gave an address, in which he. outlined
the work \yhich the Jewish Federation
is accomplishing; He pointed to the
.proud record which it had achieved
during the'past'year in the cdjlectioTrof
$53,000 from only 800 subscribers, and
he appealed that this list should this
year be swelled by an;additional 2,000
names in order that the chanty might
widen its activities: He emphasized the
reputation which the Jewish people
enjoyed of caring for their own poor,
and urged that this spirit;ot helpful and
confidential charity should continue to
be a trait of the race. ._
