OBITUARY
The death occurred on Friday evening, July 4, of Abraham Caplan, age 61, 93 Clarence Street, after an illness of four days. Mr. Caplan, who carne to Ottawa about twenty-four years ago from Russia, was engaged in the furniture business from which he retired a few years ago. He was one of the founders of the Rideau Street Synagogue and he was vice-president and chair-of the Chevra Kadisha of this synagogue. Services were conducted on Sunday afternoon in the synagogue by Rabbi Mintz and Rabbi Maiser, and at the graveside by Rev. Mr. Baker. Mr. Caplan is survived by one daughter, Mrs. B. Maiser, and two sons, Louis and Emmanuel, all of Ottawa. Mr. and Mrs. E. Pullan, of Toronto, a brother-in law and sister-in-law of the deceased, were among those who attended the funeral.

At a meeting of a number of friends of Mr. and Mrs. George Stambler, Poplar Street, Abe Goody was chosen campaign manager for Sam Stambler, candidate for King in the Talmud Torah Carnival. Mr. Goody and his committee are working out several affairs in aid of their candidate.

LATVIAN PRESIDENT ADMITS ANTI-SEMITIC CHAUVINISM BEFORE JEWISH DEPUTATION
Riga (J.T. A.).�A deputation of Ortho dox Jews, under the leadership of Deputy Dubin, appeared to-day before the President of the I^atvian Republic, Mr. Jam Chakste, to complain against the chauvinism of the I^atvian officials and press.
In reply the President stated tnat he fully agreed with the opinion of the deputation that Latvia lacks the objective point of view which is necessary in order to judge properly the econorpic and political situation of the country "Latvian politicians lack ripe statesmanship," declared the President. He further stated that his power was limited by the constitution, but that he would use his moral influence to prevent any injustice to the Jewish people of Latvia.
