JUBILEE CARNIVAL TO BE BIG SOCIAL AFFAIR
In aid of the Winnipeg Hebrew Free Schools, the Jubilee Carnival to t>e held on the grounds of the Jewish Orphanage on August 13 and 14 will have more than sixty artists in the three main attractions of the carnival: The Band Box Revue of 1924, Twinkles of Stardom and the Boxing and Wrestling Stadium. A regulation twenty-foot ring is being constructed for the latter show. A dance floor will be built on the Orphanage grounds and a novelty saxaphone band will supply music. Other open-air attractions are being arranged for the carnival, which will be brought to a climax on the second night with a midnight frolic in which masquerade and prize dances, fireworks and the assistance of stars from current legitimate and vaudeville shows.

HADASSAH
An executive meeting was held at the home of Mrs. P. Chertkow, 362 Aberdeen. In the absence of the president, Mrs. H. E. Wilder, Mrs. Chertkow was chairlady.
It was decided to buy 64 trees for the tree campaign in memory of Dr. Herzl, on July 22. This chapter has already bought 86 trees, the total now l>eing 150.
It was also decided that this Chapter buy trees up to 1,000 and call the forest after the Winnipeg Chapter of Hadassah. N. Schiffer, chairman of the National Fund Campaign, made an appeal for volunteers, to which many women responded.
TALMUD TOR AH
A joint meeting was held by the Indies' and Girls' Auxiliary on July 14, in the auditorium of the Talmud Torah. Mrs. M. Weidman presided. Several l>ooths for the carnival that will be held on August 13 and. 14 were distributed and the following appointed conveners: Mrs. M. J. Finklestein, candy kitchen; Mrs. B. Levinson, Mrs. Lyons, hot dog booth; Mrs. Pansy Frankfurter, flower lx>oth; Mrs. A. Berg, home cooking; Mrs. Chertkow, Mrs. Davis, Tag Day.
A silver tea was held at the home of Mrs. J. A. Diner, 301 Bon Accord Block, in aid of the Talmud Torah carnival, July 17, convened by Mrs. M. Weidman. Mrs. B. Levinson poured the tea, later relieved by Mrs. I. Portigal. The tea table was decorated with paeonies and maiden hair fern. Assisting in the tea-room were: Mrs. M. Weidman, Mrs. I. A. Diner, Misses Gladys Cohen, Hazel Dmer, Ada Phillips and Marian Tamand.
A Talmud Torah conference was held on July 13 in the Talmud Torah (corner Magnus and Andrews; to interest all organizations to work for the carnival. Mr. S. A. Berg was chairman. Speakers were: A. Asovsky, superintendent Of Jewish Orphanage; H. L. W'eidman, chairman, Board of Education; A Stem, vice-chairman, Board of Education; M. Finkelstein, chairman, Legislation Committee; Rabbi Kahanovich; and Rabbi J. Wolgelerenter Tuture son-in-law of Rabbi Kahanovich.). One delegate of each organization was chosen to work out the plans in their organization and report to the next meeting in about two weeks. Mr. Silver was elected chairman of the Conference Committee and Mr. Rosen, secretary.
Mrs. H. J. OreUki, Matheson Avenue, was at home on Thursday, July 10, in honour of Mrs. H. Kimelman. of Toronto. The living room was adorned with peonies and sweet peas and the centre of the tea-table held the same flowers, Mrs. A. Fred and Mrs. M. Slobinsky presided, later relieved by Mrs, D, Singer and Mrs. J. Slobinsky. Mrs. F. Kimelman, Mrs. M. A. Slobinsky and Mrs. L. Portigal showed the guests into the tea-room where those assisting were: Misses Rose Portigal. Ethel Rosenberg, Lucy Rosenberg, Clara Portigal and Adeline Portigal. Rose Portigal and Adeline Portigal rendered musical numbers. In the evening dinner was served for the immediate family.
Mr. and Mrs. I, Sohn, Inkster Avenue, entertained at dinner in honour of Mr. and Mrs H. Kimelman and family, of Toronto, on Friday, July 11. Peonies and roses formed the centre of the table which had covers for twenty-four guests*.

Miss Sarah Ruben sang, accompanied on the piano by Miss Ethel Schwartz. Violin solos were rendered by Mr. Risnitsky, accompanied by I. Kaminetsky.
