fcosfy ^aett)onati Greetings
From the Premier of the Province of Ontario
1 )n the occasion of the annual commemoration of the Jewish High HoK Days I gladly avail myself of the "opportunity to extend an expression of the cordial goodwill of the people of this province to our fello a-citizens of Jewish origin. We all recognize the great contribution- the Jewish peoples have made in the past to human progress and civilization, and we earnestly hope that the co-operation of all our people will continue to advance their common interests as patriotic citizens of Canada and of the British Empire.

From the Attorney-General of the Province of Ontario
As a rule among the new-comers to a land may be found vigorous, aggressive and adaptable men and women, who, dissatisfied with the home conditions, have the courage to leave their native fond and strike out for-better things for themselves and their children, for which they are prepared to risk for the moment much. Among your people without doubt there have been such, and as a Canadian, myhope is that the liberty and opportunity of Canada have given them scope for action with adequate reward for effort.
Canada, with a government patterned on that of Great Britain, knows neither race nor colour in the administration of justice and allows liberty of action, asking however in return full recognition from each citizen of the rights of others and observance of the laws of the land. Privilege and duty go. hand in hand. The chance to enjoy carries with it the responsibility not unduly to interfere with the opportunities of others seeking similar happiness. Now, as never before, is the time to emphasize this point, as there are those amongst us who fail to appreciate the basis of true freedom, the right of individual action within the law. If one sets* himself as above the law, obeying only when it suits his convenience, or fails to give regard to the rights.of others, the first tendencies towards tyranny appear. As a Canadian, I hope our legislation will be so patterned that the Canadian national aspirations may be fostered and developed, that those not of our own race and their children may continue to feel as the years go on that Canada is a good country in which to live and labour, and that as true Canadians, they may be able and willing to advance our common interests.
To each of your readers may I extend best wishes for a happy New Year? Believe me,
Yours sincerely,
W. F. Nickle.

From the Provincial Secretary of the Province of Ontario
Let me express my pleasure in extending to all readers of The Canadian Jewish Review, on the occasion of these solemn religious festhals, every good wish, together with my cordial hope that the daw: ing New Year may bring to them all prosperity, health and
hapr:ness.
Vith such noble traditions as those belonging to your ancient with a history of indomitable courage and tenacity of purpose gh centuries of persecution and discouragement, emerging with arkable record of success in every vocation, with high ment in science, art, politics, finance and commerce, and with -T-enlarging horizon, I would urge upon them all their high duty untain the best standards of Canadian citizenship. For one ed and fifty years your people have been residents of Canada, i the past ninety years of which they have been entitled to sit nadian parliament, but the fact should never be lost sight of n the enjoyment of equal rights and full citizenship beneath the n flag, enjoying as Canadians the priceless blessings of just laws, i:nP : tially administered, full freedom of thought and conduct within r^t laws, these privileges involve in return an equally heavy r^p< risibility with all other Canadians to conduct themselves as e*en plary citizens, to guard jealously their reputations as true Cana--'ar>. and to strive ever for the highest standards of thought and actlf i in public and in private.
1 would urge upon our Jewish compatriots that they fittingly Member their civic responsibilities and the obligations that go with ^e enjoyment of full citizenship, and that this remembrance and high resolve should constitute in their minds a part of the solemn celebration Qe*t month of these two great festivals.
Yours sincerely, L. Goldie.
