DP YOUNGSTERS GET CHANUKAH GIFTS
Jews throughout Europe, celebrating Chanukah, were pro* vided with thousands of religious article* from the Joint Distribution Committee, major American agency aiding distressed Jews overseas. The holiday is a favorite of children, since it is observed with games and gift - giving. In the DP camps of Germany, toys and presents for 9,000 youngsters were distributed, including 2,300 chess sets; 1,050 drawing books; 930 checker sets; and 560 dolls. Among other holiday articles given to children in JDC children's homes, schools, hospitals, and other installations on the continent were 240,000 candles and thousands of religious booklets and menorahs. Many of the latter were made by Jewish displaced persons in JDC workshops in Germany. Special gifts of food and candy were given to each Jewish child in JDC-supported homes and institutions in France. In North Africa, with the cooperation of the French Alliance Israelite Unl-verselle, 25,000 children received an extra ration of milk.
