Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were presented with a silver tea service from his mother, Mrs. Sonya Nelson, and from his brothers-in-law and sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gol-din, Jeanne Mance Street; and Mr. and Mrs. David Medicoff, Duro-cher Avenue; and gifts were received from the other guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Sabloff, 3045 Brighton Avenue, celebrated the bar-mitzvah of their only son, Leonard Irwin, who was called to the Reading of the Law at Beth David Synagogue. He is the brother of Mrs. Mac Ravitsky, 3175 Lin-ton Avenue; and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Markman, Mackenzie Avenue; and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Sabloff. Kiddush was observed after the ceremony. The following evening, one hundred and twenty-five guests were received at Mirsky's. Mrs. Sabloff wore a strapless cinnamon-brown lace gown, over Nile-green taffeta, with a lace peplum, and a matching brown tulle stole. She had elbow-length matching lace gloves, green suede shoes, and a bronze-shaded beaded bag, which was a birthday gift to her from her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ravitsky. Mrs. Markman wore a royal-blue crepe dinner gown, with a gold-beaded bodice, and corsage of yellow roses. Mrs. Ravitsky wore a strapless white nylon gown, trimmed with black lace at the top of the bodice, and a band of black lace around the full skirt, tied in back with a white nylon bow trimmed with black lace. Her lace gloves, tulle stole, a beaded evening bag were black, and she had a corsage of red roses. At the head table were: the hosts with Leonard Irwin; the grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Ravitsky and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Ravitsky; Mr. and Mrs. H. Sabloff, uncle and aunt of the bar-mitzvah boy; Rabbi Roness; and Joseph Y. Nadler, who was toastmaater. Leonard Irwin, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Sabloff, and Rabbi Roness spoke. The table was adorned with two arrangements of daffodils, tulips, irises and roses; and there were candelabra at each end of the table, with foliage, and a birthday cake, in the shape of a book. Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Gesser. St. Urbain Street, entertained fifty guests to celebrate the engagement of their daughter, Sandy, to Joseph Bernstein, Park Avenue, the marriage to take place on June 6, at Bnai Jacob Synagogue. Mrs. Gesser received in a grey crepe dress, which had a Queen Anne neckline, short sleeves, and a straight skirt, with panelled back. The honoured wore a navy-blue crepe dress, designed with a high round neckline, short sleeves, and a full skirt Mesdames N. Gesser, St. Catherine Road; H. Gross, Willow-dale Avenue; H. Hertz, Davaar Avenue; A. Rotstein, Ducharme Avenue; M. Feldgaier, Clark Street, assisted with the serving. The head table was decorated with roses, carnations, daffodils, and snap-dragons.
Mrs. H. Granofsky, Hutchison Street, and Mrs. Max Spivack, Querbes Avenue, gave a tea at the Queen's Hotel, for the former's daughter, Mildred, who is the fiancee of the latter's son, Issie Spivack. There were one hundred and twenty-five guests present. Mrs. Granofsky wore a navy-blue dress, trimmed with taffctn, and a straw hat in the same colour, which had pink roses, with accessories to match, and a corsage of roses. Mrs. Spivack wore a dress of the same colour, with a floral design running throughout, and a hat to match, trimmed with flowers. Her corsage was composed of pink roses. Miss Granofsky wore a navy-blue crepe dress, trimmed with pink taffeta, which had a round collar, the skirt draping to the back. Her hat was triangular, of navy-blue, with pink velvet trimming and rosebuds, and her corsage was of spring flowers. There was a centrepiece of spring flowers, with candelabra at either end of the table. A presentation of a silver tea set was made by Mrs. Spivack; and of a dinner set by Mrs. Granofsky.
Mesdames Nathan Mankofsky, St. Urbain Street, and tfathan Deskin, Esplanade Avenue, entertained in the Spanish Room, of the Queen's Hotel, in honour of the former's daughter, Miss Riva Mankofsky, whose marriage to the latter's son, Archie Deskin, takes place on May 17, at the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue.
