Banking on a new partnership
Reliability and flexibility are l<eys to friends' success in print business.'

Bom in Israel, Dro-ry Rozcn came to Vancouver in 1982 after completing his military service in the Israel Defence Forces. He then got an economics degree from Simon Fra-ser University and went to v/ork in the banking business.
Drorys interests then turned to printing... but not money. No connection between the banking and printing careers,... should you be wondering, dear reader.
Anyway ... after 10 years, Drory and longtime friend and colleague Ken Jung started their business, Reflex Printing. "We're a good shidach... a good match,", says Ken. "Shidach?" I ask Ken. "I've been teaching him," interjects Drory, Reflex, as in Reflex Print-. ing, stands for reliability and flexibility. "Two important components for success," agree the partners.
Aside from business, community means a great deal to Drory. He's usually involved with several Jewish causes or organizations and, recently, Reflex Printing sponsored the Jewish Community Centre 1999 Sports Dinner program book.
But listen, Drory, this printing money ain't a bad idea. With your background in economics, you'd be a natxu^!
Local restaurateur Jeffrey Bamett tells me his Canadian Rainforest restaurants (there's one in Eaton Centre Metrotown and one in Toronto's Scarborough Town Centre) were named by Restaurants and Institutions magazine tops in the themed restaurant category. , It's a jungle out there, but, there's. only one Rainforest, eh Jeflrey?
Jonah and the whale, Noah and the flood, Moses ascending Mount Sinai. Indeed, awesome biblical encounters with nature. Yet, the proportions of those feats we must imagine. But there's no imagining with Extreme, a new

IMAX film showing at Canada Place and Silver City Riverport. Before you, lai^er than life, are •some of the biggest names in adventure sports challenging the most intimidating forces of nature. Let's just say Jonah, Noah and Moses would be proud ... and maybe even themselves a bit awed.

Women's issues. Indeed, an issue of interest to my wife, Elaine. That's why I'll be attending ... with Elaine, naturally... Prof. Galia Golan's talk to the community at Beth Israel, May 4,8 p.m. It's either I attend or Elaine makes an issue. Only kidding, folks.
Anyway ... Golan is chair of the Lafer Centre for Women's Studies at Hebrew University of • Jerusalem. For talk and ticket details phone 257-5133.
I'm not much on war. It's not for a nice boy like me. But Vancouver Theatre Spprts League's Full Metal Improv is described as a "comedy in the trenches." It's a completely improvised show' that takes its audience (who volunteer suggestions and help) along on a "war epic" The show, I'm told, wUl leave me a "casualty of comedy."
Nu ..; this kind of combat I can handle.
Full Metal runs at the Arts Club Revue Stage to May 29. For details phone 687-1644.

For most people, a barber chair is a seat in which to get a haircut For Al Hirschfeld, famous cartoonist chronicler of Broadway and world celebrities, a barber chair is his desk chair. As for a haircut, Al could use one. But he doesn't have the time, I guess. Hirschfeld, you see, who is 95, kayn cyeneh liora (no evil eye), still works seven days a week. His latest book, Hirschfeld On Line, is appropriately published by Applause Books. So take a bow, Al... and get a haircut!
Artistic director June Goldsmith tells me her Mi^sic in the Morning series becomes part of the Global Village when the CBC Vancouver Orchestra broadcasts this season's final Music in the Morning concert to Europe. It's at the Chan Centre at UBC May 3 at 11:30 a.m. Global Village, eh, June? Not bad for a shtetl kid..

Texas governor George W. Bush these days is the Republican front-runner for the U.S. presidency in 2000. Naturally, the American Jewish leadership and electorate are concerned with what Bush's attitude and approach will be towards Israel should he become president. In some Jewish circles, I read, this is a fiery topic of concern... a burning Bush questipn you might say!
