Tel Aviv, the Wonder
City, Progresses
Interest in Palestine and in the progress there, is always keen in Vancouver, particularly so after the visit of a speaker such as Maurice Samuel, who has recently arrived from the Holy Land.
Simultaneous with the arrival in the city of Mr. Samuel, the Centre office received an interesting booklet released by the Keren Hayseed, in which progress in Palestine is outlined and the growth of the city of Tel Aviv is described.
These "booklets have been circulated generally,, and are of utmost interest to anyone who has the interests of Zionism at heart.
• The publication is complied by JudahNedivi, the town clerk of Tel Aviv, and its pages are frequently'interspersed with photographs which show the remarkable development in that wonder city.
One of the most interesting photographs is that of the meeting on the sand dunes, which resulted in the founding of Tel Aviv in 1908. ^ .
It shows a' group of about one hundred men and women, standing on a bleak sandy desert, on which there is not a sign of vegetation. In chronological order there follows a series of the erection of a few miserable shacks pictures wherein we see represented that housed the first workers. Coming on down towards the after war period, pictures show Tel Aviv as it is today, a beautiful growing city, with its opera house, technical school, its public libraries, its musical seminaries, and hospitals.
The editor of the publication has listed the industries that have arisen in that miracle city. From their numbers and variety it . is,, easy to prophesy that the economic future of Tel Aviv is assured, especially in view of the fact that the products of the industries settled there are finding their way into rich neighboring markets of Trans-Jordan, Syria, Egypt, and the Iraq. The publication has been filed amongst our important records, and is available to anyone interested.
