Lillian Belkin is the sole feminhie entry. But.lt is expected :that with her vast dr&iftatlq i^eidenc'ein addition to her jmtiiral .(tapa^ the verbal utterance, she will give the boys a sound comjietitipn. '
Mitchell^ Snider lis; a^'nevj^ and promising speaker who is beginning to cultivate oratorical fields. Anyhow, he it one of the few of our yoimg people who can sv-iteh.to Hebrew with ease. Let's hope the jiii-ges' are bi-Unquists.
Harry Aqua, is a "young; speaker who is promismg and will do his best to wrest the cup which is at stake.

Arthur Fouks is: a,-new speaker In the official sense. But 'he has spoken and talked much in the past. He hopes finally to get some recognition for his multifarious utterances and so he has entered this contest.

„WASHINGTON,-D.a.tWNS) —.A code—of-manners and conduct -for American Jews was outlined here by white-haired, white-bearded Solomon Levitan, who arrived in America 57 years ago as a penniless immigrant from Russia, and virho today" at the age of 78 is serving his sixth term as state; treasurer.;of Wisconsin -which regards him as one of its most beloved citizens. In an address at the Jewish Community Center, "Uncle Sol,". as he is. known in Wisconsin, cautioned Jews against "going places where they are not welcome. Do not try to. go where, you are not wanted. Your racial pride should be so great that you, as a Jew, should not want to go any place where a Jew is not welcome. If you refrain from going places where you are not welcome you will soon win the respect of all about you and cause the 'not welcome' sign to be removed." He urged Jews to accept success "with modesty and humility," and not to "brag about success or wealth." "We must not overdress," he said. "We must not be extravagant. We must not over-indulge in luxury. All these things cause prejudice against the people of our race."
Emphasizing that "ths true Jew" is "not a boaster," "does not make a showy display of his woi'luly goods" and "does not do things which are offensive to both Jew and Gentile," Levitan declared "most Jews dislike the unfavorable traits exhibited by the thoughtless members of our rase even more than the Gentile dislikes them. But it is the lot of the Jew that all Jews bear the penalty for the mistakes made by a few of our peo-
ple." He also cautioned Jews to preserve their cultural tradition and assailed those who "try to pretend that they are a different kind of Jew" and /'join ~Grentile rchurches just tp ga.ln;prestigeir- ''If.we-are.-pi:oud of ouf Jewish -ancestry,'^ Levitan said, "we can overcome many of the hardships which the thoughtless members of our race place upon us." He deplored the neglect of religious education among Jews and pleaded with American Jews to "exert every energy to adhere to the old standards' of our race and to preserve those finer qualities which we owe to America for that which America has given us. Let us hold money in its place. If we let it master us, it will be our ruination. If we master it, we can make the wealth of our people an instrument of great good. If we can, as Americans of Jewish descent, give to America something of the idealism and desire for service which has marked the Jew down through the ages, we will accomplish a great good for America, the Jew will hold his place in the sun of America's gratitude."
