An experienced youth leader. Director Schreiner was keenly interested in Jewish Youth movement, taking an active part in the direction of Young Judaeans. Of pleasing personality. Congenial disposition, sterling character with a thoroi^h Understanding of the problem of yoimg people. Director Schreiner will be a valuable asset to the Jewish Com-mimity of Vancouver.
Director Schreiner was recom-thended to the Vancouver Talmud Torah by Dr. Ben Zion Bokser, for-riier spiritual leader in Vancouver. He is expected in the city on Sunday, September 3, and Talmud Torah classes will be resumed at the beginning of next week.

Vancouver Young Judaea debates against Winnipeg, the visitors to debate against Saskatoon for the possession of the niagniflceht Baltzan Cup for thecur-rient year. Although Bernard Reed and Arthur Fouks were the original debaters,.due to unavoidable circumstances Bernard could not make the trip, thus the alternate debater, Victor Freeman, is travelling in his place, and Jack Zack is representing Vancouver Young Judaea as orator.
The Western Annual Judaean Convention scheduled to be held at Saskatoon, September 2, 3, 4 and 5, promises to be the most outstanding convention held in years. This convention has been a year in preparation and from all publicity released i:hus far, plans are so unique as to command immeidiate success.

PRAGUE (WNS).—The world-famous Pressburg rabbinical seminary in Bratislava was destroyed this week following a cold pogrom started by Nazi hooligans usually reliable sources disclosed. All books and valuable manuscripts were burned.
As a result of the pogrom a terror-stricken Jewish populace started on exodus from Slovakian provincial towns fearing that the terrorism which topk place was but the beginning of further violence and destruction..! Jews were said to be storming foreign consulates in an effort to obtain visas and,those whose applications were denied are said to be fleeing to the small towns, where anti-Semitic is not so violent.

STREET FESTIVAL IN CHINATOWN TO AIDREFUGEES
Parade of Dragons and Colorful Events, September 6 to 9
A three-day street festival and bazaar will be staged in Chinatown, Sept. 6 to 9, in aid of the "One Bowl of Rice Drive" of the Chinese War Refugees' Relief Committee of Vancouver.
Each day from 1 p.m. until 11 p.m., a section of Pender Street, west of Main Street, will be the lair of dragons and China's traditional "Lion Monster," which will lead the parade of dragons and picturesque floats.
Hundreds of Chinese children will take part in the "Lantern Parade," which the relief committee promises will be a brilliant pageant of old and nen' China.
Among the numerous acts under preparation for the festival are "the first fall fashion show of 1939," featuring native Chinese costumes; "The Dance of the Moon Maidens," symbolic of the womanhood of old China, and a dramatic performance, "The Goddess of the Moon," depicting the advent of Empress Ngfay to the abode of the immortals.
Several demonstrations of Chinese fencing, music and dancing, v/ith actors in colorful costumes will be featured daily.

Professor E. K. Ryadnoff. His voice is a rich bass-baritone, and his radio and concert work over a period of years has elicited high praise and comment by music critics in Paris, New York and other cities. Cantor Sivowitch brings with him a deep and intimate acquaintance with Synagogue litiurgy and Jewish music, in which fields the sympathetic appeal of his voice has foimd a true medium of expression. The Cantor assisted by the choir will officiate at the Selichoth Service tt. be held at midnight, Saturday, September 9, at the Commimity Centre. Inauginrating the solemn season of the Jewish Calendar, it has long been the tradition to hold a solemn service on the Satiuday night before the New Year, in which the note of soul-searching penitence is emphasized.
HIGH HOLIDAY SERVICES
Plans are completed for the approaching high holidays which begin with the New Year on Wednesday evening, September 13, at simdown. In order to provide accommodation for the membership and the community at large, arrangements have been made to hold worship services in the Peter Pan Hall, 1636 Broadway. The services vrtll be in charge of Rabbi Samuel Cass, and chanted by the Cantor, assisted by the Beth Israel Choir.
SEAT ASSIGNMENTS
The committee in seat assignment will be in attendance at the Community Centre this coming week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., and on Sunday, September 10, from 4:00 to 6:00 p,m. All reservations must be made in person on the above dates. CHILDREN'S SERVICES
