VAAD HOIR TO SURVEY JEWISH EDUCATION
At the last meeting of the' Vaad Hoir, held Monday night at the Schara Tzedeck, it was decided that a survey of Jewish education in Vancouver would be conducted this summer. Heading the Survey Committee will be_Mr. C. Walfish, President of the British Columbia Branch of the Canadian Jewish Congress and co-chairman of the forthcoming United Jewish Appeal.
Following the example set by the Canadian Jewish Congress in Montreal, the Vaad Hoir survey committee will obtain the names of all Jewish children of school age. The parents will then be approached and urged to send their children to the Talmud Torah, or some other religious school.
The survey committee, which will be composed of a number of laymen and three Vancouver rabbis, will visit each Jewish school, examine its curriculum and aims, and make recommen-
dations to the school committee.
KASHRUS COMMITTEE APPOINTED
Mr. H, Altman, chairman of the Vaad Hoir, also appointed a Kashrus committee. This committee will be headed by Mr. H. L. Friedman and will be composed of Rabbis Ch. B. Ginsberg, D. C. Kogen, and N. Burstyn, as well as the presidents of the three synagogues, Messrs. A. M. Charkow, A. O. Koch, and H. Toban. The Kashrus Committee will supervise and encourage Kashrus, and attempt to promote the sale of kosher products.
PALESTINE WINE
In commenting on the ten cases of Palestinian Alicante wine that were sold by the Liquor Control Board, Rabbi D. C. Kogen showed the members of the Vaad Hoir the hech-sherim which he had just received from the east.

PERETZ SCHOOL HALL 1173 WEST BROADWAY
We want to remember our Jewish brothers and sisters—^young and old, sick and with bare hands, who fought the Nazi beasts. They fought so that we might live! They gave their all and the enemy was forced to pay. There were forty thousand and then there were none.
We shall not forget! We shall honor our heroic dead! Warsaw, another glorious page written in blood, is added to the pages of Jewish history.
The members of the Peretz School have prepared a suitable program for the Memorial.
Demonstrate that "WE SHALL NOT FORGET". Attend the Memorial evening for the heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Magistrate Oscar OrrAddresses Large Meeting
A most enjoyable evening was participated in by a large attendance of the members of Vancouver Lodge No. 668, when the city magistrate, Oscar Orr, addressed the meeting on "The War Trials in Japan."
The talk, as the magistrate himself suggested, rambled, and could only touch on the highlights of the trials, yet the information given the lodge was of the most interestmg character.

Polish Jews To Unvei! Memorial for Warsaw Heroes
WARSAW.—(WNS)—A monument to the Jewish martyrs who died in the revolt of the Warsaw Ghetto five years ago is to be unveiled here on April 19 at a service to be attended by delegations representing Jewish organizations from various countries.
Simultaneous with the unveiling of the Warsaw monument, similar ceremonies will be held at Oswiecim and Treblinka, sites of the liquidation of most of the millions of Jews who were murdered by the Nazis. The Warsaw ceremony will be attended by a six-man delegation from Palestine. The delegation will bring soil from each of the Jewish colonies in Palestine and comingle it with the soil on which the monument was built. Special commemorative tablets will be set up in the crematoria of Oswiecim and Treblinka and along the railway station in Warsaw, from which hundreds of of thousands of Jews were deported to death camps. All letters leaving the Warsaw Post Office on April 19 will bear special stamps, and the participants in the ceremony will receive silver memorial medals to be issued by the Jewish Central Committee of Poland, sponsors of the memorial meeting.
To accommodate the thousands of Jewish survivors in Poland desiring to attend the unveiling, railway officials Will sell 5,000 tickets at a reduced rate. The total cost of the monument was 28,000 zlotys, of which 10,000 was contributed by the government and 18,000 by the Jewish population of Poland.
At the same time it was reported this week that the Jewish community in Poland has raised 80,000,000 zlotys ($200,000) for the Jewish defense forces in Palestine.
The speaker pointed out that'J' although the Japanese are con-' sidered by the Western world only half-civilized at the most, yet as he pointed out actually the Japanese civilization is much older than that of the Western world.
Their civilization is concerned mostly with a love of the things agricultural, and they are foremost in the field of tree culture.
Magistrate Orr stated in nis remarks that in the Japanese effort to imitate the Western world their firemen were highly reminiscent of M;ack Sennet's "Keystone Cops," and quoted several instances of a highly amusing nature.
In Japan Magistrate Orr was directly responsible to General MacArthur and Lord Louis Mountbatten.
He said that the damage in Japan was tremendous, and quoted the case of Tokyo, which was between 65 per cent and 75 per cent completely demolished. He concluded his talk by observing that the government of Japan was completely self-governing, the Allied governments, acting only in the role of supervisors.
Mrs. Victoria Campbell was the very able soloist, and was beautifully accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Cox.
