HADASSAH
HADASSAH COUNCIL are very gratified with the very successful Youth Aliyah "luncheon held recently. Lieut. Phinn E. Lapide, the speaker at the lunbheon also spoke to gatherings at the Prince of Wales High School, King Edward High School, the United Nations. Club, and Hillel House at the UBC . . . The next Council meeting will take place on Monday, March 24, 8:30 pan. at*the Home of, Mrs. L. White, 6069 Athlone Street . . . March 30 has been proclaimed "World's Jewish Child's Day". Watch for further details in the next Bulletin.
HENRIETTA S^OLD Chapter will hold a. rummage sale on Monday, May 12 at the Arcadian Hall. Please save all clothes not suitable for Israel and they will be picked up. . . . The Mickey Katz show, sponsored by the Youth Aliyah and Henrietta Szold Chapters is a sell-out. Tickets were limited to 700, so all are assured of room.
HERZLIA CHAPTER will hold a joint meeting with Naomi Chapter on Tuesday,. March 25 at 8:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. S. Zack, 3287 Cambie Street. Dr. W. G. Black, head of the Department of Citizenship, Dominion Government will give an address on "Citizenship." A full attendance is requested for this very informative evening.

NAOMI CHAPTER have been invited by Herzlia Chapter to a meeting at which Dr. W. G. Black of UBC will speak. This meeting will take place at the home of Gertrude Zack, March 25 at 8:30. YOUTH ALIYAH Chapter's last meeting, held at the home of Mrs. Jack Wilder w^s held recently, the program being on Purim . . . It is hoped that members will prepare their gifts for, our surprise booth at the Hadassah Bazaar, as this is our main project and our goal is 1000 prizes . . . The next meeting will be held Teu6-day evening, April I in the form of a shower for our surprise booth.

is making plans for the Fesach Tea to be held on .Monday, April 14 at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Zacks. Mrs. S. Rabinovitch will convene, assisted by ,Mrs. A. Klimoff and Mrs. M. Chetkow. . . . Tlie annual garden party will be June 18. ... At the last meeting, held recently, a presentation of a Tree certificate was made to immediate past president Mrs. E. We extend our deepest sympothy to the family of the late ABRAHAM HELMAN at their sad and untimely loss. ^Jhere are no words with which we can truly express the feelings of all those who knew the departed, et hearing of his possing. He was respected and beloved by all who knew him for his qualities of kindness and humon understanding. He was o great credit to the Canadian chess fraternity and we considered it a special privilege to have, hod him as organizer ond post president of our club.

last Sunday at. the age of 45 after a heart attack, and was buried this week in Schara Tzedeck Cemetery.
Well-liked by all who knew him, Mr. Helman was best known as one of Canada's outstainding chess experts. He was also deeply interested and well-versed in music and the arts. He came to Canada from RussiSt ^bdiit 26 years ago and settled in Winnipeg, where he won the Manitoba chess championship several times. In 1939 he was a Canadian delegate to the International, chess team tournament in Argentina.
Mr. Helman came to Vancouver ^'in 1946 and he organized the Vancouver Jewish Chess Club of which he was a past president. He was B.C. chess champion in 1947. Last year the Canadian Chess Federation considered *im the only recognized chess expert in B.C. to participate in the Canadian Championship which was held here. But he h^d to decline the invitation due to illness.
Mr. Helman is survived by his wife Ann, a son, Michael, and his mother, who came to the funeral from Winnipeg.

REV. B. M. JAUVOISH
Winnipeg lost one of its best loved citizens when Reverend Baruch Moishe Jauvoish, aged 68, prominent and well-r^sp^cted religious leader, and well known in Vancouver, by former residents of that city, passed away Sunday, March 9.
Born in Lithuania he came to Canada in 1904, settling in Winnipeg where he tdok a very active part in the community life of that city. He held membership in virtually every organization, was. head of Congregation Beth Jacob for 48 years, and a member of Hebrew Sick Benefit Society for 40 years. He held the positions of Schoechet and Moh^l for 48 years, during which time he cir-cumcized oyer 5000 babies
Pre-deceased by 'his wife Rachel, in 1946, he is survived by one son, Irving B. Jarvis, of Minneapolis, Minn., and four daugh-1;ers, Mrs. H. Fishman of Winnipeg, Mrs. M. Lucow of Toronto, and Mrs. L. Mallin and Mrs. Robert Brail of Vancouver, and eight grandchildren.
Burial took place at the Hebrew Sick Benefit Cemetery on March 10.
