LONDON (WJA)—Arab boycott offices in the United Arab Republic and'in Syria have advised companies to "choose between the Arab States and Israel in their industrial, commercial and "financial relations. A large number of companies and factories responded to the boycott regulations as a matter of self-interest and liquidated their transactions with Israel. Others are contediplating, gradual liquidation of these relations, in view of the world Zionist pressure in this connection."
This information was given to a press conference in Damascus by Lt. Gen. Ali Amir, Supervisor-General of the Boycott,of Israel Offices in the United Arab Republic,-the World Jewish Congress Information Department repipjrts. Pin-pose of his visit to Syria, he said, was "to strengthen our efforts in the boycott." Journalists were told that two offices had been sfet up:: a regional office in Alexandria which is iir charge of the Cairo and Port Said offices as well as the offices on the airports and ports; and another- office in Damascus. Task of the Supervisor-General was to "coordinate the activities of these offices and to regulate their duties in ac-cordauQe with the directives of Gov-ernhient authorities."
Lt. Gen. Ali Amir claimed that Israel had. "finally discarded the hope of <Spening Arab markets to its products and has turned to African and Asian markets. 'It has hastened to conclude trade deals with several states there: But the. boycott offices wiU take adequate measures to counter such \hiii^s."
Arab boycott efforts were described a^ "logical and just measures design:^ ed to prevent Israeli commodities from infiltrating into Arab countries, in view of the state of war between the Arab countries and Israel, and at preventing Israel from obtaining supplies from the Arab countries to meet requirements of her strained economy." More efforts were needed to "counter-act the methods which will be used by Israel and the World Zionist Organisation to discredit the boycott and to portray it as religious and racial fanaticism," especially vis-a-vis Christian public opinion.
