! Services at the Temple Ema-el were held Friday, Feb. 10, nducted by L. Raels, assisted M. Menkes. A new women's ganization recently formed 11 be known as the Sisterhood the Temple Emanuel. Alexander is treasurer. The group will meet on the ird Tuesdiay of each month th.dues set at $5 per year. A mbership tea was held Sun-y, Feb. 5, at the home of Mrs. Libby. Hostesses were Mrs. sky, Mrs. Bateman and Mrs. afer, with present member-p now at 21.
Habonim and the Schara Tzedeck religious school participated in a joint tree planting ceremony on Sunday, February 5, in honor of the celebration of Tu B'shvat. Seven trees in all were planted iniront of the synagogue, disc trees commemorate the memory of the six million Jews who perished during the Second World War and the seventh tree was planted in honor of Israel's Bar-Mitzvah year. In the picture, from left to righiv are: Teel Smolen. ED GOFSKY PASSES
Edward Isadore Gofsky, of 2388 Oliver Cresc, Vancouver, passed away suddenly on Jan. 30, at the age of 45. Born in Calgary, Alberta, he was active in the AZA, and one of the most promis^ing athletes in that city. Part of his youth was spent in Edmonton, where he was a member of the synagogue, the B'nai B'^rith and again, actively participated in sports.
He joined the Canadian Army with the Reconnaisance, and trained in B.C. with the Commandoes. He served overseas for the duration. On his return; he established the White Dove Cleaners in Vancouver.
He was a member of the Schara Tzedeck synagogue, the Dry Cleaners Association and an original member of the B. C. Lions Booster Club.
He is survived by his wife, Syma; two children: Lynda, age 12, and Kenneth, age 8; his mother, Mrs. Katie Beaverman; two sisters: Jen Gofsky of San Francisco, and Mrs. Anne Cooper of New Jersey; and one brother, Harry L. Gofsky of Vancouver.

Pioneer resfdenf dies
Mrs. M. R. Barrett passed away Friday, Feb. 3 at 80 years. She was born in Chomak, Poland, and came to Vancouver in 1922.
She was a member of the Beth Hamidrosh and Schara Tzedeck Congregation and o£ the Mizrachi. Women's organiza-tioni
Rabbi Bernard Goldenberg Rabbi Ch.Ginzberg and Cantor Deutch officiated at the services and interment was made in the family plot at the Schara Tzedeck cemetery. Funeral ar rangements were conducted by the Chevra Kadisha.
Mrs. Barrett is survived by a son, Harry; three daughters: Mrs. Monis Goldberg, Mrs. Raymond Musikansky and Mrs. Bernard Cristall; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
William Gescheit dies
William F. Gescheit, aged 84 years and a resident of the Jew-! ish Home for the Aged of B. C. i since 1947, died in Vancouver General Hospital on Jan. 22.
The funeral was held on Jan. 23 with Rabbi Ch. Ginzbcrg of-1 ficiating, assisted by acting Can-! tor B. Victor. Interment was made at the Schara Tzedeck cemetery and funeral arrange-1 ments were conducted by the i Chevra Kadisha. I
Mr. Gescheit, who was born. in Hungary, is survived by a | sister, Mrs. M. Schultz of Cleve-1 land, Ohio; and a niece. Mrs. \ Ruth Graf of San Francisco. California.
NCJW mmounces new I gerentology program
I The National Council of Jewish j Women's new committee on ! Gerentology is sponsoring an ! ambitious many-sided program I to spotlight the needs of the senior citizens of our community. Focal point of the plans now being undertaken will be a luncheon which is being planned for March 8.
At the luncheon an outstanding panel of highly qualified personalities will highlight a discussion of "The New Frontiers of Aging". The next issue of the Bulletin will present more details on the Council's Gerentology committee's plans.
