Israel Bond red@mptio§i spurs eommissait^r interest
The redemption of Israel Bonds as they reach maturity is spurring wider community interest in the program for Israel's economic development, Mr. David Chertkow, Chairman and Mrs. Samuel Gold, Women's Division Chairman of the Vancouver Israel Bond Campaign declared.
At the start, of the Israel Bond Drive in Vancouver, discussing the role of investment aid on the part of individual Canadians in the growth of the State of Israel, the Chairman pointed out that "those who had faith in Israel's capacity to achieive economic stability when the first Israel Bond issue was floated in 1953, have had that faith confirmed in the redemption of their bonds at maturity on the basis- of 150 cents per dollar invested."
"Redemption has become a factor of growing significance in the new Israel Bond Campaign because it has served to create greater confidence in Israel as a growth country. It has also stimulated many of the original bondholders to re-invest their redemption cheques in new Israel Bonds.
"Economic self-reliance is the foundation of the future of Israel and for this reason, the Israel Bond Progi-am represents an enterprise that is fundamental to the attainment of the country's aspirations of freedom and peaceful progress," Mr. Chertkow and Mrs. Gold
concluded. MRg. S. GOLD

Nussbaum calls for
central body tp represent aft Je^
WASHINGTON. D.C. — Dr.
Max Nussbaum of Hollywood, California, president of the Zionist Organization of America, sounded a strong warning recently that the Western powers halt their "appeasement of President Nasser of Egypt and resultant world disaster before it is too late." He reinforced ' this warning by noting the current commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I and the 25th anniversary of the beginning of World War II, asserting that "it was the appeasement of Hitler in the early stages when he could have easily been deterred or defeated vy^hich brought about the greatest calamity mankind has ever witnessed." He maintained that "there is a similar attitude of appeasement in the treatment of Nasser by the Western powers."
Taking note of the present position of the American Jewish
com m u n i t y, Dr. Nussbaum made a direct appeal to the Jewish masses in this country to stir up the leadership in their communities to organize a central representative Jewish body of the American Jewish community, charging that the present "utter disarray" of Jewish community life hampers it in the e f f o r t s in behalf of the plight of Soviet Jewry and in combatting anti - Semitism in other parts of the world. The Zionist leader also called for the promotion of a 1 i m i t e d Aliyah (settlement in Israel) of American Jews asserting that the emigration to Israel of 5,000 American Jews a year is "within the realm of probability."
Dr. Nussbaum was keynote speaker at the opening session of the .67th annual Convention of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) recently attended (by over 1,000 delegates from all parts of th^e country.
10,000 Hgza criminals remain in hiding
WASHINGTON ~ Ten thou-
sand fugitive Nazi war criminals, including vicious SS and Gestapo agents, remain in hiding but will be free to openly return "to poison the atmosphere" after the German statute of limitations expires on May 8, 1965, the West Germany Em.-bassy was warned today.
The warning came frohi National Commander Ralph Plof-sky of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America.
Mr. Plofsky, of White Plains, New York, wrote Ambassador Heinrich Knappstein that an estimated 10,000 Nazi murderers are still at large. These men.
including some of the most cunning and sadistic concentration camp personnel, are living in West Germany and throughout the world, many under false names.
"It is vital," said the veterans' leader, "that war crimes charges continue to apply to war criminals after next May 8, expiration date of the West German statute of limitations on crimes of the Nazi era.
"From a viewpoint of human justice, there can be no coldly technical cut-off date after which these fiends will be free from prosecution for their heinous crimes," said Mr. Plofsky.
