Those tiny rays of human dignity that make life worth living continue to filter through the black oil clouds. . . What does a non-Jewish neighbor of Jessie Allman's have in common with the elderly stranger who came into Ed Miller's store last week? They both care what happens to Jews, that's what. . . Jessie's neighbor gave a sizeable donation at the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War, and the old pensioner brought Ed an enormous donation of $25 from his welfare cheque explaining "the Jews are a courageous people.','

You know, kinderlach, no thanks is coming to Jews who give money to Israel. That is our generation's unique privilege. . . It is also only doing our duty when we do not choose to fulfill the more sacred privilege of being able to go and live in the restored Jewish homeland. . . For sure we should say thank you to these Righteous Gentiles among us who care about our fate. . . And we should also be aware and thankful that they exist as well as that they help our people in
time of trouble.

SHAARE ZEDECK HOSPITAL IN JERUSALEM converted into a fully-equipped and prepared military hospital to care for the wounded during recent crisis. The director-generars office became operational headquarters and senior staff mapped out schedules to assure that a full team of doctors, nurses, technicians and other staff would be available around the clock. Volunteers came into the hospital in droves and assignments were made. Those with cars created a car-pool capable of handling all problems including the transportation of hundreds of nurses and medical staff who worked in 12-hour shifts. Photo above shows a wounded soldier on arrival at the hospital.
