A capacity crowd of some250 mien — representing a cross-section of both the Jewish and general communities — gathered at Schara Tzedeck auditorium Oct. 24 to honor one of the community's best-known leaders, Morris Saltzman.
The event, the Men's Israel Chai Dinner, paid tribute to Mr. Saltz-man's almost 40 years of service to the Vancouver Jewish community. The honoree is presently executive-director of both the Jewish Community Fund and Council and Canadian Jewish Congress, Pacific Region.
Judge Norman L. Oreck enthusiastically spoke of the personal
qualities of Mr. Saltzman, noting his ^'numerous sincere public and private act of concern and service to others over the years."
"Repeatedly, in any situation, Morris Saltzman's humanity is uppermost," Judge Oreck stressed.
Mr. Saltzman also received praise and appreciation from a number of community leaders and friends. It was noted at the evening that numerous women had contributed to the men's campaigin in order to honor Mr. Saltzman.

Akiva, Israel. Dr. Roy Waldman, chairman of the men's committee and the dinner, presented the honoree with a gift on behalf of his coworkers at the Centre.
Women's committee chairman Marian Margolis made a special presentation to Dr. Waldman in recognition of his "outstanding efforts" throughout the^ campaign.
Professor William NichoIIs, head of the department of religious studies at UBC, led the list of speakers. Citing the interaction between Christians and Jews in Vancouver, he stressed the leadership and participation of Morris Saltzman as crucial in initiating and sustaining thedialogue.
I^ofessor NichoIIs spoke of the epriiitnon ideals shared by Christians % andiJews, emphasizing the alertness, commitment and faith required to prevent religious oppression.
Morris Saltzman's own remarks at the close of the evening illustrated his concern for others as he expressed his pleasure at being honored by identifying many of those in the audience — some from
Crafts instructed at 'Teen Chavura'
The Centre is offering all teens in the community an opportunity to learn skills of batik, embroidery, rug-hooking, painting and other crafts.
Persons interested are being asked to come to the Centre this Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. to meet the instructress of the Teen Chavura,' Nancy Stem, a graduate of UBC in art education.
