stop fasting during . . .the messianic age. **Jn those days it shall come to pass, that ten ymen out of all the languages of the nations ^haU take hoUl,. and shall seize the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying. We will gowitkyou, for wehaveheard that G-d is with you," iZacha-riah8:23) .
Zachariah*s choice of words is-truth and peace.* (V'haemei v%asila/om>. Without truth there can be- no peace, and without pe^ce there can be no truth. Two simple words, but until that day arrives, we fast every year.
But when the hour finally comes when the Jewish people absolutely '7ove truth and peace." then we*ll be dancing in the streets on Tisha B'Av, the most vivid expression-of the end of our long physicah and^piritual exile,.and it*ll be like no other dance a nation has ever danced.
One thing for sure, it won't be the bossa nova, the twist; or the tango. It won't even be the hora. It'll be the dance of truth and peace, a new dance on the face of the planet.

Canadian Jewry 'strong' says retiring Hebrew university rep.
Joel Alpert, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's official representative to Canada for the past fouryears, is packing his bags and returning to Israel.
Alpert, who served as the univerity's associate dean of agriculture before his term here, is returning to Jerusalem as senior assistant to the university's president.
It's a challenging position, -and he feels his experience as executive -vice-president of Canadian Friends of the. Hebrew University has more than prepared him for it;
And as an Israeli living in the Diaspora for the first time, he has developed a healthy respect for Canadian Jewry.
*^You havean excellent Jewish community here. I've travelled from coast-to-coast meeting people on the Hebrew University's behalf, and I must say I've been greatly impressed by people's knowledge of, and support for, Israel and the Hebrew Univer-_ sity. It's been a real inspiration to me," he said.
During his tenure, Canadian Friends has greatly expanded the scope and breadth of ^its" activities. A number of communities have
ALPERT
endowed major projects, and the University's supporters have greatly increased their level of commitment.
He is especially grateful to Vancouverites Morris J. Wosk and Dena Wosk, who have endowed the chair of musicology in the faculty of humanities; Rose-Marie and Leon Glassman and the Glassman Family foundation for Research in Juvenile Diabetes; and David Kline, president of the local chapter, and his wife Gerry.
"As well." he said, "I wish to say that we are very fortunate to have Dvori Balshine as executive director of Western Canada. From Day One when
she began with us we were *on the map'."
The number of Canadians studying at the Hebrew University has continued to expand, he said.
**We have excellent lay leaders, and a fine staff. In fact, although I'm very much looking forward to returning to Israel, I've developed so many close personal ties that I'm really going to miss Canada," he said, adding that his daughters, Ronit and Tali, who attended Bialik, and his wife, Mira, who was an active community volunteer, really feel like they belong. .
'^Canadians are fortunate to live in such - a- prosperous, peaceful country. Canadian Jews, if they wanted, could assimilate, and ignore their Jewishness. But they haven't. My family and I have felt a very strong Jewish commitment here. It's different than what you experience in Israel, where Jews are the majority. But, in some ways, it is just as strong," he said, adding he hopes to maintain the ties he has developed here.
Taking over duties from Alpert witf'be Shimon Arbel, the subject of a future interview in 77ie A/Z/e/i/i.
