Federation's singles-survey to help planning of new programs
JWBStuff
Responses to the Jewish -Federation of Greater" Vancouver's survey of Jewish singles began trickling in last week,, offering some encouraging signs to J FGV officials.
Earlier the Federation mailed questiqnaires to 2,400 names culled from its computer listing of persons thought to be unmarried and living alone. The list was not restricted according to age.
It is the first such survey in recent memory, the last being a complete demographic study of the Vancouver Jewish community in 1981.
Federation executive-director, Steve Drysdale, told JWBXast week the fmal results will help JFGV design programs and services for singles of all ages in the community.
He said it should take at least a month to tabulate, analyze and publish the responses in some form.
He is encouraging resppnd-
DR. WEINSTEIN
ents to answer the questio-naires as soon as possible.
The survey is an attempt to determine the situations and needs of single Jews living in the community. As well, it asks if the recipient would be interested in doing volunteer work or perhaps talking personally with a Federation worker. The. survey can be answered with complete anonymity assured.
Prior to sending the survey.

The .singles-survey is -the ^ first step. He added: "We want to delineate exactly what kind of a single population we're talking about. Although intermarriage is certainly a concern when younger singles are the subject, 5o too is loneliness for many others."
Dr. Weinstein also reminded that in the interim "there are a number of services for singles — notably the Young Leadership Group . . Perhaps it bears mentioning that singles are welcomed to any organization, committee, or activity as equal members of our Jewish community. One never knows where a new friend might appear.''
