Canadian Friends of Hebrew University, Vancouver chapter recently established a Young Associates division.
Longtime Hebrew U. supporters Leyla and Abe Sacks hdsted an informal cocktail party recently to introduce the concept of an H.U. young adults division in Vancouver.
Larry Rosenberg, co-chairman of the Professional and Business division of the Hebrew U. Winnipeg chapter spoke about the division's success in Winnipeg froth its inception in 1985, and how it has become one of that city's leading groups for young Jewish men and women. The evening at the Sacks' created enthusiasm and inter- ' est and marked the inauguration of the Young Associates division of Vancouver.
Young Associates are planning their premiere event, "An Evening of Enchantment." The evening will take place next June 3 at the Queen Elzi-abeth Theatre, and will include the production of-Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of~ the Opera, directed by Harold Prince. A champagne reception will follow.

Dancers invited to liop over to JCC
A new adult class will be offered from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays as part of the next season of dance courses starting in September at the Jewish Community Centre.
Reisa Schwartzman, who has been teaching at the JCC for 14 years, will present the class in her continuing capacity as senior dance instructor, in addition, she will be offering a variety of classes for children of all ages.
Barbara Hutton will return this fall to teach Beginners Ballet and Ballet I, while Ricki Thai will teach two jazz classes on Thursdays for ages eight to 11 and nine to 12.

The sages of the Talmud had many disparaging things to say about the pagans of antiquity. They had but a single positive statement with regard to those individuals. They tell us that even though homosexuality was rampant in those societies, nevertheless homosexuals did not draw up a marriage contract. This statement was uttered as a commendation of individuals living at that time. Reflected in this statement is an awareness that there is a difference in engaging in conduct, and recognizing that the conduct is wrong, immoral, illicit — and recognizing and formalizing that form of conduct.
We may have understanding for the individuals engaged in these acts, but we cannot and must not give a good seal of approvafto their kind of lifestyle.
