NEW YORK — New York attorney Leon Charney received the American Friends of the Rambam Medical Center's Israeli Ambassador's Award for outstanding achievement.
For the third year since unveiling the monument to the Shoah at the Schara Tzedeck cemetery, the Vancouver Holocaust Centre Society is holding a memorial service during the High Holy Day season.
Kaddish will begin at 12:30 p.m. beside the monument, on Sunday Sept. 23.
Leo Lowy, who has organized the service each year, told The Bulletin that friends and families of Survivors and Second Generation will join
together in this act of remembrance. Lowy emphasized that this Yom Tov memorial observance is not a replacement for the annual Yom HaShoah, but part of the continuing Jewish tradition of visiting the graves of departed loved ones at this time of year.
Transportation is available-from the Schara Tzedeck synagogue at 10:45 a.m., at Oak and 19th Ave.
For further information call Leo Lowy at 274-0068 or the VHCS office at 261-1180.
Psalni 27 may be said to apply to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur: "The L-rd is my light" means Rosh Hashanah; "And my salvation" means Yom Kippur; And on these days I am unafraid of my enemies, namely, my evil inclinations and passions. For I have been privileged to come into -the Holy Place and that gives me assurance that I shall triumph in the war they make against me.
Pesikta Ruber, p. 176a (modernized).

Technion device to aid operations
HAIFA — Technion researchers have filed patent application for a new device for non-evasive monitoring of cerebral blood flow and oxygenation which will make information on blood flow to
the brain available to clinicians. Such information is vital for applications in intensive care medicine and during major operations requiring general anaesthesia.
