Halibut Landings Up, Price Level Higher
Area 2 halibut landings to May 22 totalled 3.1 million pounds compared to 2.2 million pounds landed in the same fishing period last year, the International Pacific Halibut Commission reports.
Landings from area 3A amounted to 1.4 million pounds in the same period compared to 0.6 million pounds in 1968.
Area 3B and Bering Sea landings totalled one million pounds, down from 1.5 million pounds for the comparable period last year.
"Figures published elsewhere indicating larger totals in 1968 were not for comparable dates in the two years," the commission says.
Higher prices for halibut this year indicate the market "has largely overcome demoralization caused by the Greenland halibut fiasco of 1967 and 1968," the commission holds.

Three quarters of funds received by the company for investment are used to make long term mortgage loans to credit union members, mainly to provide family housing. A real estate department also operates in all company offices.
