"WE w.TLL NOT APOLOGISE BECAUSE WE WB3S IK THE RIGHT1"
■ Lcict Saturday, in New-Westminster, b'a'k Gavin; and Jack Phillips, members of the editorial board of this paper, attended p meeting of the B,C,F.P.A. investigating committee set up to cltiar or condemn Fred Kplloy for his share in the recent negotiations at Rivers Inlet. The outcome of this meeting was that Gavin and Phillips were asked to "apologise1 for the" write-ups the Fisherman gave this question. Naturally, Gavin and Phillips refused. They were ' In the right and they refused to backdown, thus taking a stand for unit:- end honest trade unionism.
The editorial board of this paper ishes to make it known to all readers and fishermen that we have never, at, any tine, written ?r spoken against the personal character of Fred Rolley. What we have dene is to criticise his incorrect policy, as 2 leading mcmbo*' of the 3.C.F.P.A. Further, we wish to announce that wo will continue to do so until the "B.C.F.p.A.Carrie., en their business'in a method more in lir.e with good tvade union principles and in the interests of all fisherman.
Whan Fred Rolley signed on-the dotted line at divers Inlet he knew that the P,CF,T;. delegates were net represented at;the meeting. Further, he knew that. Mr. Payne of the Canadian Fishing Company would not recognise them. His stand should have been that he would not negotiate till the"p.C.F.U,' delegates, representing more fishermen in the area than the B.C.F.P.A., were allowed in. He had no right to take . the stand that he was signing for his members only. By taking this stand he helped the canners spread the propaganda ■ that his union, the B.C.F.P.A., war the only legitimate union in the trade. And this is far from being the truth.-
| Instead of accusing us of splitting the ranks'^ the B.C.F.P..A. should be honest and admit their mistakes.
