HTOTHER NITE, I jist couldn't somehow git to sleep after listenin' to the propagandy pro and con on our radio which seems to have ceased bein' a instryment fer pleasure an' has growed inter one big pro<<S> pagandy machine.
After rollin' over an' over in bed fer over a' hour, I ast par, who was still up doin' a crossword puzzle, to come inter my room an' .talk to me.
Par says, "Now, my fine little

lass, what is they which you would like to talk about at this hour a the nite?" I ast par, if he didn't know any of them kinda stories which is fitten to tell a respectible young lady, say somethin' of a historical interest an' par comes up with the following yarn after rubbin' off a few more hairs around his bald spot.
Now, once upon a time, they was a fine big lake of salt water which seperated two big dairy farms. These farms were famous the whole world over fer their prize dairy cattle. Farmer John Bull owned the farm on the east side of the lake an' farmer Uncle Sam owned the farm on the west side of the lake and each farmer had paid immense sums a money fer the sires of their herds.
Fer many years, they was a more dr less friendly competition between farmer John an' farmer Sam as to which could perduce the highest quality and biggest quantity of milk. Occasionally, one or tother's bull would break loose an* meander around the lake shore to pay his respects to the neighber's herd. Now, these little excursions of adventure on the part of the bulls always stirred up a whale of a rumpus,as both John and Sam was dead set on raisin' no mixed breeds of cattle.
Farmers John an' Sam never did figger out any worth while silution to stop this vexing fraternising bisness of their sires an' they was always a tension existed, which of course was the big laugh of all the surrounding territory.
They came a time in history when Uncle Sammy's bull jist up an'-disappeared an' when no sign was seen of the animal fer over a week, Uncle Sammy got hisself busy on the phone an' the first person he ringed up was farmer John. Says Sammy, "Looks here now, John, has you shot my prize bull?" To which farmer John replied sorta sarcastic like, "No, Sam, I aint shot yer bull, but account of all the noise over on your side of the lake, I sure figgered as how you" shot him yerself."
Well, Uncle Sam was like a mad man an' fittin^to be tied, cause no matter where he searched fer his awful expensive prize sire, he just couldn't find him nohow. Par stopped talkin' an' commenced ter load his pipe with some good southern hospitality, which by the way, costs a dollar six-bits fer half a pound.

I says, "Hey! par, did anybody ever find that there lost bull?" Par has a eye twinkle that jist can't be duplicated an' he says, "Well, now, bless my boots lass, yer might think I'm braggin', but as near as I know, I'm jist about the only person in the whole world as knows jist where Uncle Sammy's bull is at an' if you don't tell mar an' spill the beans, I'll let yer in on a secret.'
Par bent down an' kissed me goodnite an' as he went out a my bedroom door, he whispered, "Lass, I kinda got a sneakin' serspicion, that Sammy's bull is on the jot) in Washington as director in chief of foreign relations and propagandy. Lass, I been listenin' into 'The Voice of Ermericer' an' that roar could only have originated on the west shore of the Great Salt Lake which seperates them two farmers."
That was par's story an* after par went to bed I was still awake fer a while an' I listened in fer a few minutes to my knot hole telegraph an' the message I got sure put me to sleep. I heard mar tell par to git up' an wash his feet cause you could smell 'em clean down to South Afriky.
Par says, "Now, mar, I knowed they was somethin' rotten down there in South Afriky, but honest now mar, I never thought anybody's feet could smell that bad."
LAST fall when Par got home from Straits fishin', Mar started in pesterin' Par to .go an' get a mo witch (venison) on account of the scandilous price of dermesticated meat.
Says mar, "Par, you know very well, that they aint no call fer us to go hungry like this when King George lets his mutton run free over the hillside." Par trys to beg his way outa goin' huntin' on account of he is soft an short winded.
However, mar won the debate an' next mornin' bright an' early, par an' me starts out. I sure felt sorry fer par as he puffed his way along an' somewheres along about noon, par got six shots at a wonnerful big buck an' missed as slick as a whistle every shot.
On our way home, I plum ser-prized par an' myself when I knocked over a spike buck with one shot on my 22 single shot. Par cleaned my deer an' when he came back from the crick from washin' his hands, he handed me two bucks in nickles an' dimes an' when I ast par what the money was for, he said, "Now lass, be a good scout an' tell yer mar that I shot this here one as I'd kinda like ter convince her that my shootin' is improvin'."
Par won them two dollars in a poker game up around Namu somewheres, from a feller by the name of Moore er somethin like it, so he says.
World Peace Pact Campaign Opens Here
A world-wide petition urging a World Peace Pact is now being circulated throughout British Columbia by the B.C. Peace Council and many affiliated organizations.
The petition urges the Canadian*^ government to call for conclusion' of a pact of peace among the five
great powers—United States, So viet Union, Great Britain, France and the People's Republic of China.
This pact would be open to all countries so that Canada, too, might join it.
Canada's support for such a pact is urged "to fulfill the hopes for peace cherished by millions throughout the world, regardless of their views as to the reasons for the danger of world war."
"Refusals by the government of any great power to meet for the purpose of concluding such a pact would reveal aggressive designs on the part of that government," the petition declares.
"The conclusion of such a pact is desired by virtually every inhabitant of the earth, regardless of political opinion, social condition or religious belief," states a B.C. Peace Council press release.
"No sincere man can fail to wish in his heart for such a meeting, of the Big Five for the purpose of discussing and finding a peaceful solution to the quarrels between nations. It is quite possible for a movement of popular opinion to insist that this meeting take place."
The petition is being circulated in 83 countries and at least 800 million people will sign it and so declare to the governments of the major powers: "End your evasions. Stop talking war. Sit down, in all good faith, and talk peace. Agree on terms for a pact of peace."
Five hundred million people signed the Stockholm Appeal, de-
manding prohibition of the atomic bomb, and as a result the bomb has not been used in Korea or China.
Eight hundred million signatures on the World Peace Pact petition can set the world on the path to lasting peace.

Open House At Children's Hospital
May 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. is annual "Open House" day to the public at the Children's Hospital (for sick and crippled children) 250 West Fifty-ninth Avenue Vancouver.
This is the institution that many fishermen have helped build and maintain since 1923, The March of Dimes Hospital. During that period, thousands of children born in tragedy, have passed through its doors into a full and happy life.
All readers of The Fisherman are invited to visit the hospital on this day. Take time out to get to know your hospital and afterwards have a refreshing cup of tea in the Out-Patients' Clinic.

WHO IS FISHER LASS?
Who is Fisher Lass? Who is My Par? Well, we don't intend to start a guessing contest on the subject but we do wish to answer the numerous queries that have come our way by first stating that Par, Mar and Fisher Lass have asked that they remain incognito. So Fisher Lass, till the talented youngster changes her -mind, will be simply Fisher Lass.
We can, however, tell our readers that Fisher Lass* is a fisherman's daughter, still in Iher teens, who was out on a fish boat at the rather tender age of three weeks. She has been just about as close as that to fishing ever since. If you want to know more about her and her family, why, just read her column in The Fisherman.
