eitz chaim dedicates' new building
Eitz Chaim Schools recently officially opened its New Wing and dedicated its South Wing as the Tanenbaum Building.
The large audience that attended the ceremonies was greatly impressed by the most modern facilities Eitz Chaim now provides for its students.
The School Band of 30 boys and girls participated in the ceremony, conducted by band leader Bill Berle, assisted by Israel Lebovitz a teacher in the School. Cantor Zigelman recited the Dedication Psalm.
Chairman of the proceedings was Max Tanenbaum, communal leader and son of the late Abraham and Chippa Tanenbiaum to whose rnemo-rv the building was dedicated.
He was introduced by Harry Korolnek, president of Eitz Chaim. Wayne Tanenbaum, grandson of Abraham and Chippa, stirred the audience with his plea on behalf of Jewish education. Wayne Tanenbaum, also expressed the feeling of his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Tanenbaum, who together with his brother Max assisted greatly in the planning of the Eitz Chaim Building.
The Hon. H. E. Elborn, deputy Minister of Education, brought greetings from the Premier. Mr. Irving paisley. Councillor pf North York Township, v^rought greetings frorri the Township. Ben Wortsman, Eitz Chaim's Chairman greeted the asseirF bly on behalfof the Cam-paigri Committee.
Mr. Sam Sa'ole, president of the United Jewish Welfare Fund of Toronto, mentioned, the great role, the Welfare Fund played with its capital grants toward the Eitz\Chaim Building Fund.
Dr. Joseph Diamond, Director of the Bureau of Jewish Education, impressed the audience with his appraisal of Jewish education today. Rabbi M. Ochs of the Torath Emetli Synagogue delivered a mo^'ing address7in^ which he made special mention of t^e_late Abraham and ,Chip-^pa Tanenbaum and their role-in Eitz Chaim. , '
Leott Pape, Toronto J.N.F. president, announces that the Samuel Feldt Negev Dinner, under the sponsorship of the Jewish National Fund, will take place on Monday, November 27th.
Each year funds are raised to redeem a tract of land in the "Canadian Section" of the Negev in order to convert an ever-widening area of wasteland into productive farmland. At the Negev Dinner, the tract of land redeemed with the proceeds is named for one deserving of the honor — this time, Mr, Samuel Feldt, philanthropist .and communal leader. aiK

More than 500 guests viewed the showing of ceramics, painting and sculpture at the Saturday evening Sherry Party and the Sunday afternoon Tea. Winning ticket for a piece of sculpture by. E. B. Cox will be drawn at the
next sisterhood meeting.

Canada's Secretary of State for External Affairs, Hon. Howard Green, complimented the National Council of Jev^dsh Women
pf Canada for an expression o^ 'support emerging from a meeting of the Council's executive committee in Toronto earlier this week.
In his letter to the N,C.J.W. the Secretary of State expresses his gratification for the moral support given the government on its firm United Nations stand to ban nuclear tests by Russia. Mr. Green told the Canadian Jewish Women that he greatly appreciates their position' which strengthens the Canadian delegation at the U.N.
JOIN PROTEST
The national executive committee of the N.C.J.W., representing 6,000 women across Canada, voted to comniend Mr. Green for his recent statement regarding Canada's, stand on nuclear testing. - •
Gaining support at last week's executive meeting was an appeal for a mass protest to Russia's Premier Krushchev against use of the thermonuclear bomb.
The committee agreed to wire its consent to the International Council of Jewish Women to send such a protest to thie Russian leader.;

A brief religious ceremony marked the Dedication of the Tanenbaum Building, vtfhere the daughters of Abraham and Chippa Tanenbaum, Mrs. Sam Katz .arid Mrs. Simon Gottlieb together with Faye and Annc/Tainen-baum unveiled a/ marble plaque memorializjthg their parents. V: V • /
also "wholeheartedly endorsed" the proposed establishment of a Canadian peace research institute — first such agency devoted to a full-time study of conditions contributing to war.
In a statement issued by the national office in Toronto, Mrs. N. I. Zemans, of Calgary, national president of the 6,000-member women's group, notified Dr. Norman Z. Alcock in Montreal that her organization is in full accord with the plan to set up such an institute. Dr. Alcock is one of the founders of the institute, establishment of which
was announced this week.
URGE RATIONAL APPROACH FOR PEACE
"A major principle" behind the program of the N.C.J.W., Mrs. Zemans said, "has been always that Canada must exercise its privileges and responsibilities as one of the leaders of the free world to create conditions of peace.
Mrs. Zemans lauded founders of the institute for their plans to employ 25 scientists to bring to bear a rational approach to peace by the methods of sciencj^ and reason.
The Hebrew language is today a key to the understanding of the rebirth of the State of Israel arid is an essential faqtpr in appreciating' traditional arid modern Hebrew literature. The; revival of Hebrew as a modem living lianguage is one of the outstanding deve-lopmerits of 20tH century Jewish life.
Keren Hatarbut endeavors to demonstrate and bring to Canadian^ Jews the message that Hebrew is a vital element in living and thriving Judaism. Whether it be for effecting a closer personal relationship with Israeli peo: pie or for the purpose of delving into original Biblical or modem Hebrew writings, a knowledge of Hebrew can be a very stimulating experience.
Keren Hatarbut is the cultural arm of the Zionist Movement. In Canada a head office is maintained in Montreal with branch offices in Toronto and Winnipeg. The new regional office and meeting rooms of the Keren Hatarbut were recently opened at 638 Sheppard Avenue West, iri .the Sheppard Plaza near Bathurst Street. The branch functions through a local executive board with director and secretary.

An afternoon show will be viewed at 2:30 and an evening presentation at 8:30. The Beth Sholom choir will entertain. Door prizes will include a white fox stole and vacations in Miami and the Catskills. _

e. To provide modern camping facilities for Hebrew speaking youth. Camp Massad at Torrance is sponsored for this purpose.
; Hebrew classes for adults in various stages pf progress are being carried on at 638 Sheppard Avenue and at 12 Viewmount Avenue (Jewish Folk School). Public lectures, panel discussions and other cultural affairs are programmed throughout the year. Various groups meet in pri-^vate homes for discussiori and study.
