LONDON. (JONS) — A Czernowitz (Bukovina) court has sentenced a local Jew to eight years' imprisonment for showing "excessively warm feeling" towards a relation from Israel.
Complete details of this strange case and its hztrsh sequel are not yet available, but it is reliably reported that the trial was staged in order to discourage the 70,000 Jews of Czernowitz from having any contacts with Israeli visitors, relations or not.
Duruag his trial, the man told the court that the Israeli visitor towards whom he was accused of "showing excessively warm feelings" was his sister, whom he had not seen for very many years|.
As far as is known, there is no law in Russia forbidding contacts with foreign visitors- It is known, how-even that the authorities have viewed with displeasure the Warm welcome given by Russian Jews to
visitors from Israel, who have been coming to the Soviet Union in increasing numbers.
Many of them from the U.SA. as well as from Israel, have visited Russia simply as tourists, but quite a number have made the trip in an effort to trace relatives there.
In the majority of casies, foreign visitors must stay at prescribed Intourist hotels, but in the case of the man sentenced in ~CzeiTio-' witz, his sister is reported to have been allowed to stay with him while she was in Russia.

SAO PAULO (JCNS). - A new synagogue for Jews originating from Syria is now nearing completion here. The older community of Jews from the Middle
East has been strengthened by the steady influx of refugees since 1948. especially with the arrival of about 8.000 Egyptian Jews after the Suer crisis. The Jews from Egypt also
have their own congregation, synagogue and Hebrew classes under the chairmanship of Mr. Joseph Parhi, a former vice-president of the Cairo Jewish community.
by the GSovemment, the Boarc was recognised officially and given a charter and a seal.
Mr. Menasse was siunmoned last Friday by the PoUtical Div-. ision of the police headquarters here which conveyed to him the order of the Ministry of the Interior. He was asked to hand over the seal, and was informed that the order from Ankara pointed out that the decision would stand "until some legal questions were cleared up".
The dissolution order has caused surprise and regret in com. munal circles. The Chief Rabbinate is now seeking an official explanation. Meanwhile, no one knows how the Rabbinate's properties are going to be ad. ministered in future.
IN-UW HELPS ONITE MOTHER AND SON
VIENNA. (JCNS) - When Khnischev's son-in-law, Ale-xei Adzbubei, editor of the official Russian paper "Iz-vestia", was in Vienna in March this year and held a press conference, the JCNS correspondent managed to raise with him the case of a t\vice-widowed Jewish woman, who wanted to be reunited with her son, who ^vas in Moscow.
Mr. Adzhubei promised to do what he could.
The woman concerned is Mrs. Maria Rauchwerger, living in Czernowitz with her husband and son when the war broke out. Her husband was killed by the Nazis and she became separated from her son, who was hidden somewhere in the forests of Russia 20 years ago or more.
NEW CLtB IN ISTANBUL
ISTANBUL (JCNS). - A new Jewish sports club is to bo opened m Istanbul. It will be called the YUdiz Club — "YUdiz" means "star" in Turkish — and will be similair to the Bar kbchba Club
Dozens of petitions, including one personally submitted to Mrs. Khruschev during her visit to Vienna two years ago, were unavailing. The Russians would not grant Mrs. Rauchwerger's son permission to leave Russia.
In the mekntime Mrs. Rauchwerger's second husband, who she had married after the war, had died, and she became seriously ill.
Two weeks ago, as a re^ suit of Mr. Adzhubei's intervention, the widow's patient ce was rewarded. Her son, Mr. Paul Weichselblatt, now 34 years old, arrived here and was reunited with his mother.
which closed several years ago. Its president wiU be Mr. Haim Bichacho, a former wrestling chahipion.
