London, (JCNS) Jews should not allow aiprquestimi of public relations to deter them froim taking a firin stand Chief Rabbi Dr.L Jakobov-Its, said last week.
Until recent times,. he said, the reluctance of non-Jews to nuurry Jews was one at the factors that helped to ke^ down the incidence at intermarriage. Today, however, outside resiistance had broken down, and world opinion propagated the blurring Gt differences and distinctions between peoples and religions.
"To maintain our attitude on intermarriage in modern times requires a carefully planned and courageously
executed defiance of conformity .^andnothingismore difficult in tiiis age at conformity than to defy if, Dr. Jakobovits said, "a may become beces-
saiy, as a deterrent", Dr. Jakobovits stated, "to exercise such sanctions as will prevent the situation fron being accepted, and frwn public hmwurs being given where there has been public dishonour and disgrace.
"I also find it indefensible that Jewish clubs formed to promote Jewish ccmscious-ness amcMig youth should encourage or permit a religiously promiscuous membership that often Increases the risk of intermarriage* V

' One little boy I know loves to play hide and seek behind the draperies — silk, no less. And while he's there he suddenly has to make.
That kid's been spanked, I don't know how many times. But nothing helps. His parents will give him the biggest party if they live to see him grow up.
Another three-year-old gets up with the chickens. He just won't sleep, period. He's learned not to disturb his mother and father. But the other dawn he almost woke the dead.
Suddenly there was a big crash. As his mother relates it, the first thought this side consciousness was — a plane, crash? An earthquake? An invasion from outer space? A clumsy burglary?
-When their minds cleared, they realized it could have been only one thing — sonny getting into mischief. But what?
Nu, to cut the long story short, their liakhessl (joy) padded into the kitchen, pulled a chair next to the cupboard, climbed onto it, opened a closet door, tried to pull out a cup — you guessed it. The whole stack of dishes went tumbling all oyer the place. It's a ness (miracle) nothing happened to the child.
And that was one of the times he didn't get it. Because nothing helps short of a reform school, according to the doting papa.
But I don't think that stunt will be repeated because the kid was nearly shaken out of his wits.
Another time the same brat did something else, mild in comparison.
In the middle of the night he played with the bathroom lock. And he tinkered so long that the door locked, fortunately with him on the outside,
NUj ver hut gekennt oishalten (who could
hold out)? Luckily the door didn't have to be
broken in. And, oif zulukhess (just for spite),
everybody had to go to the bathroom just then. *♦♦*.*
So maybe with girls it's easier. But when they're becoming teenagers — vay, vay!
Heather is at that stage now. And, let me tell you something,' If I live through this, I'll live forever.
It seems like yesterday when I checked her neck to see if it was washed along with her face; her hair looked like a rat's nest if 1 didn't brush it myself and she couldn't care less if her socks had holes or not. Moreover dirt and she were synonymous.
I always said she took after her Auntie Mae. Anything,Mae wore, no matter how 'cl6ah,~on hec it looked dirty. She loved to grovel in earth. If she was lost. Mama always knew where to find her — down by the railroad tracks.
And that's my Heather all over again.
But lately! She's all of twelve and can hardly wait till she's thirteen.
"Mommy, Tin almost a teenager. Oh, boy!"
You should see the sudden turnabout! "Mommy, am I too fat? Aren't my skirts too long? I wore that once already. I need to have my hair set. I won't shorten my fingernails. Can I get heels? Can I date when I'm thirteen, only in the daytime? If you won't let me, I'll grow up to be a social outcast. This year I have to fast on Yom Kippur."
And one thought runs into another endlessly like a broken record.
You begin to think, "Where's my baby? How
fast they grow up." And you brace yourself for
the mental onslaughts.
