A bond of $5,200 was posted by the Damascus Jewish community for Si- • mons return to Damascus after the operation but this was rejected by the Syrian officials.
At the rally. Rabbi M. Mitchell Serels described the plight of the Syrian Jews, particularly that of a family from Aleppo, Syria. Their brother in Toronto, a Canadian citizen, has applied for the emigration of his family to Canada, with no success.
A •Tochnit L'aaman Shichrur," a program for freedom, was presented by Students of the Youth Committee for the Rescue of Syrian Jews of the Community Hebrew Academy. The students, in an original play, described the barbaric treatment of Jews held as hostages in Arab countries. A coffin made by the students, and a stretcher were presented to the public.
Jack Levy, aged 12. himself a refugee from an Arab land, sounded the shofar for the liberation of the 5,000 Jews remaining in Syria. The coffin was carried through the crowd who sang songs of liberation.

Six to 10 people covered the Gardens doors at each performance between April 17-22 with the exception of the opening on April 17 and the Friday evening and Saturday matinee performances, said Mrs. Kumove. These exceptions were due to the former being the first day of Passover and the latter, the Sabbath.
Telegrams expressing concern for the deteriorating Soviet treatment of its Jewish citizens were also sent to the featured performers of the circus by the group, which consisted of the National Council of Jewish Women. Toronto section. Women for Soviet Jewry and the Canadian Jewish Congress.

■We felt this method was best at this time," she added, ■•to convey our message^ and hope sdme good will come out of it. ■
By MARK MEDICOFF CJN Quebec Bureau Chief MONTREAL-
Concerned that the Christian missionary crusade is stepping lip its conversion activities, and gaining greater visibility, Montreal's organized Jewish community is moving ahead to counteract its influences.
According to-JRabbi Lester Rosner, president of the Rabbinical Council of America, Quebec Region, the Tesus movement has always been in this city, but with Key 73—a faith group with headquarters in the United States—the movement in Montreal is getting added impetus.
■■Key 73 is advertised to make Christians more . Christian, but what is really happening is that the emphasis is to make Jews Christians, especially young people on the campuses."
Rabbi Rosner, who has done investigation into the situation, said missionary work has centred in areas where there are dense Jewish populations and that young missionaries "are infiltrating businesses where they come into contact with large numbers of people."
The rabbi cited an example .of two girls employed in a photo shop in the Cote des
Neiges district, who distributed calling cards to young people, suggesting they participate in a "real soul-experience meeting."
After their employers were notified, the two girls 'were transferred to a store in a different location.
Rabbi Rosner also questioned why the Canadian Bible Society opened up an of-lice, for the first time,--in an apartment building in a largely Jewish neighborhood'.
He also pointed out a coffee house called the Ark, which is located in downtown Montreal on Sherbrooke Street near Sir George Williams University.
"They're putting out pamphlets by the bucket full," ;said Rabbi Rosner, "and for
a Jewish student not versed in Judaism he finds it hard to combat the things he reads. .
"A young Jew told me it made good sense, and sure it does, because about 20 per cent of what is contained in the pamphlet iare lies. What we ought to do is take the pamphlet, look at things which are not true, "make them factual, and then reprint it. We can say to the young Jew, now readlhisand compare."
Rabbi Rosner is approaching the community to help support an outreach program and, as well, to hire a well-versed Jewish worker to convey a more intellectual understanding of Judaism.
The rabbi also wants to invite questioning Jews to

Emanuel Weiner, Allied Jewish Community Services assistant executive director, views the missionary movement as "an opportunity to confront the problems in Jewish life."
He added: "There is, of course^ a general concern about the movement, and there is no question about AJCS and Hillel dealing with the matter.
"We have to determine what is the best way to deal with the problem in the most creative way possible."
