Parshat Kee Tavo ; U'nisancha Hashem rrosfa....And the L-rd will J m ake thee a head and not a tail....
It's easier to buy a new suit for Yom Tov than a f new heart. We have to polish ever>' string in our soul. —
An epidemic broke out in Busk, Poland, and the ■:■ community gathered in shul to recite Psalms and ; plead for mercy. .After the service, the town elders I announced that a committee was being formed to ■ find out which townsfolks' transgressions caused ; G-d's wrath.
Rabbi Mordechai Eliasberg, the town rav, ; protested. "It's true that when suffering comes : you have to search for sins. But you have to look : for your own sins, not others...." (Fun Unzer Alter Oitzer)

Speaking about headaches...what transgression has caused a swarm of Christian missionaries to suddenly descend on our children to try to seduce them?
Am ha'aratzus. pathetic ignorance of Torah.
Consider...when Moses finally gave the Jews the completed Torah, he commanded them to write it out on a stone in 70 languages — every mother tongue in the world — so that every human being should know what's written.
But between you and me — what was Moses, in the advertising business? Who needed all these translations?
But Moses e.xplained: "I want eveiy human bemg to know clearly what the Torah says. So that later, if groups come along and make up their own religion, they should not be able to misinterpret the Torah and say that it supports them. What they do is their business, but don't mix Judaism with idolatn.-."
The Torah teaches there is One G-d, a Perfect Unity.
The Torah teaches that the mitzvahs were given for all lime. 1877.1977, 2077. Noone has a right to reform, reconstruct, or abrogate them.
But if our kids don't know? If they learn more about Tom Seaver than Rabbi Akiva? Then they 're sitting ducks for hungr\- soul snatchers....
After all, it's not easy to keep kids straight these : days. Two boys played hookey from cheder and their fathers came looking for them. Sure enough, : they spotted them on the street.
"Let's beat them up," the bolder boy proposed. His friend protested, "How can we? It says "honor ■ thy father'."
"Okay," answered the mechatzaf. "I'll tell you what. You beat up my father and I'll beat up yours."

We should give our kids gemoras at 16, not
driver's licenses. But what can they do when they're sucked into our crazy lifestyles? ■ Imagine...G-d warned the Jews that if they strayed from Yiddishkeit, they would be cursed. "You will be meshogah from what your eyes see!" What did He mean, war, calamity, hunger?
No! G-d warned: "You'll live in a world of big cars, big boats, big houses, your eyes will see ever>thing. and you'll run around like meshngan-is all day tr>ing to make enough money to pay for everything. Meanwhile you'll let your families fall apart. your health deteriorate, and your neshamas dry up!" (Or Torah)
But we can still live in a blessed world when we cleave to Torah. Shabbat Shalom.

Hadassah Hospital featured on stamp
By CHAIM YEHUDA
On Oct. 14. 1975. Israel issued a commemorative stamp marking the return of the Hadassah Hospital to Mount Scopus.
The Hadassah Medical Organization had been in operation for many years before going into partnership with the Hebrew University, which opened in 1925. and was dedicated to the founding of a teaching hospital.
The building, completed in 1939. having been designed by the famous architect. Erich Mendelssohn, is currently being rebuilt and enlarged, h was completely neglected for 19 years until the re-unification of Jerusalem in 1967.
In 1967. Hadassah's director-general. Prof. K.J. Mann declared on the re-hoisting of the Hadassah flag: "This is a flag of war against ignorance and disease. It is a flag of peace, and as we raise it. we vow to rehabilitate the hospital."
The new Hadassah Hospital will provide important medical facilities for the region. It will ser>e as a teaching hospital for under-graduate and postgraduate medical training programs.
The Philatelic Services explained that this hospital "will provide Jerusalem with urgently-needed beds for patient care and thus be a tremendous boon to the tens of thousands of Jewish families in

Toronto Jewish Humanist Congregation
There is now a fourth ajjernative in .ludaism to existing Orthodoxy, Conservative and Reform. It is called Hjinianistic Judaism.
Humanistic Judaism is an attempt to make Judaism relevant to a scientific age and to an urban culture. It does not find the heart of Judaism and of religion, in the belief in a supernatural god. Rather, it finds the essence of Judaism in a moral commitment to'human dignity and to ethical behaviour. The Philosophy of Humanistic Judaism was first given organized religious expression in 1963. Today, there are Humanistic Jewish Congregatioiis in: Birmingham. .Michigan: Deerfield, Illinois; West-port. Connecticut; Boston, Massachusetts; Los .Angeles. California, as well as the Toronto congregation-.
In 1969. the Society for Humanistic Judaism was established in Detroit. Its purpose: to provide an international voice for Humanistic Judaism; to sponsor the creation of philosophic and aesthetic materials for educational purposes; and to organize new congregations.
The Toronto Jewish. Humanist Congregation, now entering its fourth year, will be holding High Holiday Services, which will be conducted by Robert Barr, mem'-'cr of the Society for Humanistic Judaism.
If you are unaffiliated because there is no Jewish institution in the Toronto area wliich conforms to your beliefs or life style or if you feel hypocritical or discontented with your present Jewish Religious affiliation -Humanistic Judaism may be the answer.
