MOURA WOLPERT HAMILTON — —
Fears that fundihg, facilities and privileges, will be withdrawn unless it can prove that it is a viable organization, plus a growirijg anti-Israel feeling on campus, have prompted the Hillel-Mc-Master Jewish Students Association to reorganize more efficiently and to seek support both from, the locial community and from B'nai B'rith.
Hillel's charter comes up for renewal this spring when the Mc-Master Students Union will review its financial records and past programming "to see that it matches up with objectives laid down in the constitution of the club," says Jonathan Swallpw, a Ph.D. .student in psychology who has been acting as graduate advisor to the group.
Elections for a new executive to replace the current acting one will be held in January.
MSU funding amounts to only a few hundred dollars but privileges include the use of an office, which serves as meeting room, access to the campus newspaper, The Silhouette, and use of such things as telephone, photocopier and soon. ■
Also, *'the Moslem iStadent Union is very powerful and the Jewish students feel weak, if they are not organizcsd,' they cannot respond," adds Alan Livingston, a graduate of the Univers* i^ of Toronto who returned to Hamilton a few hears ago to join his father, fdrrier Jordan Livingston. Alan and his wife, Israeli -born, Toronto-raised Yael Green-berg, "have been, helping out with HiUel oyer the past five years or so:''
At a recent meeting, B'nai B'rith reasserted its commitment to Hillel, reported Swallow and both ViceroyReading and Hamilton Lpdge, as well as the Women's chapters, have promised financial support.,
Also at the meeting, Ms;: Greenbergy: a je\yelry designer who ■returned tb school ind is. now a third year honors sociology student, was appointed part-time director of the MJSA.
Her function, she explained, will be to act as liaisbn between Hillel and the MSU as well as Network, try to reach all Jewish students on canipiis, establish personal contacts within the local community and to direct and co-ordinate programming. Her husband, meanwhile, has been appointed to act as liaison with B'nai B'rith.

.The MSJA had become "too socially oriented" and the situation was already critical last year, according to Livingston. It became an emergency when a de-
monstration on campus protesting the Beirut : massacre . was followed bya "raving anti-Israel" editorial in The Silhouette,, equating the massacre with the Holo-
caust. It was written by the paper's photo editor, a Pakistani, who, for the purpose of the editorial, was named editorjust for that week's issue.
"The Jewish group
got a couple of responses into the paper but the Moslems are being favored by the editorial staff,'' says Livingston. A stronger organization will enable the Jewish
students to respond more effectively, he said. ""■ 1-.,
There are approximately 400 Jewish students on the McMaster campus but so far only
about 75 are on IfiUel's mailing list. The weeldy deli lunches have been attracting only around IS students but attendance at various programs is increasing.
