In their meeting with Areris, the delegation was told that an important eie-nient in the peace initiative was the rehabilitation of the Palestinian population in refugee camps. The minister suggested that the fmancial support of the seven major industrialized nations, including Canada; was an important part of the plan and he urged Congress to press this point on the government.

Congress sought information oh a point brought up in recent discussions with Canadian Labor Congress President Shirley Carr, who participated in a recent international labor leaders' tour of Israel and ' the territories. '
When asked about reported discriminatory practices versus Arab laborers, Kessar "assured us the Palestinians, received the same salaries ias Israelis when they were in unions, '' Scheininger said.

They also met with Deputy Foreign Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Tourism Minister Gideon Patt, Knesset Speaker Dov Shilansky and were briefed by officers of the Israel Defence Force.

"We felt it was important to impress lipon all parties the ui^ent need to seize upon the window of opportunity for peace."
Scheininger said the visit will assist in preparation for scheduled meetings with Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Clark.
