Madras, Augj. 12 (UNI): The number of cinema houses in India has registered a^ six percent increase in 1974-75. there wee $7 34 theatres In India as on March 31, 1975, as against 8236 on March 31, 1974, according tc official figures available here
Tamil Nadu tops the list with
1425 theatres, closely followed by
Andhra Pradesh with 1409.
In Arunachal Pradesh, there was
no cinema hou se as on March 31�
1975, since the only theatre there
- had been closed down. While
Mizoram has only one there are
two theatres in the Andaman
islands.
In Kerala and Karnataka, the touring cinemas outnumber permanent theatres. In nine states or Unicn territories,, there are no touring cinemas, according to these figures.
