An exciting lineup for 2014 CelticFest Vancouver
VANCOUVER - Mark your calendars for next March 8-16, and get ready for a festival that promises nine action-packed days of music, dance and entertainment, revelry, spectacle and more for folks of all ages and walks of life.
Western Canada's largest Celtic celebration marks a decade of presenting the best of traditional and contemporary Celtic culture in all its rich diversity, spirit and sheer vitality - and you're invited!
"Each March over the past decade, downtown Vancouver has come to life with the energy and passion of Celtic culture and spirit," says director of programming, Ross Powell.
"In 2014, we're celebrating our 10th festival, and are thrilled to recreate that magic, to bring you CelticFest's best-loved traditions along with some dynamic new shows and events we think you'll love."
The festival's schedule of ticketed events is a 'must-see' list of concerts and shows. Here's a glimpse of what's on tap (with full details to be announced January 22,2014).
The festival celebrates its first decade in grand style with a roster of Celtic music's finest at the CelticFest 10th Anniversary Gala at the Vogue Theatre on Friday, March 14.
New in 2014, The Irish Edge is a special concert celebrating Irish music, slated for The Rickshaw Theatre on Saturday, March 8.
Another thrilling new addition to the schedule is Ceili's Kitchen Party, sure to draw a full house to the warmth of Ceili's Irish Pub & Restaurant on Thursday, March 13.
Back due to popular demand, the annually sold-out CelticFest Ceilidh lights up the Vancouver FanClub with a night of rollicking, kick-up-your-heels music and dance on Saturday, March 15.
CelticFest welcomes the APPLAUSE! Musicals Society to the 2014 festival, with their Celtic-themed revue of musicals and show tunes scheduled for Tom Lee Music Hall on March 15.
The festival is also pleased to include Stage Erin's presentation of The Field, one of Ireland's favourite plays, which runs at the PAL Theatre between March 7 and 15.
The wildly popular, get-your-tickets-early, scotch-tasting event A Whisky Kiss returns to Doolin's Irish Pub on Wednesday March 12.
And for both players and lovers of Celtic music, the CelticFest Sunday Session is back for a rousing go-round at Tom Lee Music Hall on Sunday afternoon, March 15.
In addition to the amazing range of ticketed shows, CelticFest continues its tradition of offering a stunning variety of FREE events for everyone to enjoy.
The festival kicks off Saturday, March 8 at The Village on False Creek with the third annual Celts on the Creek.
Already a much-loved tradition, this FREE afternoon of Celtic entertainment features talented bands, roving performers, and lots of fun activities for the whole family.
On the weekend of March 15-16, the Celtic Village and Street Market fills

Throughout the March 15-16 weekend, the Tom Lee Music City Stage on Granville Streethosts a series of fascinating (and, again, FREE) CelticFest Workshops, where experts in Celtic music and culture share their passion and knowledge on a range of interesting topics.
CelticFest's jewel and most popular event, the 10th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, takes over downtown Vancouver on Sunday March 16, starting at 11 AM.
The parade route flows along Howe to Georgia Street, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators, many decked out in Irish regalia, to cheer on a couple thousand lively parade participants -including marching pipe and drum bands, Celtic music groups, acrobats, drill teams, Irish and Scottish youth dance groups, and so much more.
To be part of this grand procession, enter by February 15,2014 (entry forms at www.celticfestvancouver.com).
Participating pubs and restaurants in downtown Vancouver's Granville Entertainment District will be rocking throughout the festival too, with popular music and dance groups on tap to perform.
CelticFest's new executive director, Nancy Cottingham-Powell says, "Our 2014 program is jam-packed, offering visitors, spectators and audiences of all ages a variety of opportunities to revel in Celtic culture in all its many facets and glories.
"From concert venues to clubs, pubs and restaurants to the city's streets and squares, our 10th annual festivities promise to be the most dynamic and memorable to date. We've got a great festival in store and I look forward to seeing everyone there!"
