Psychic Q & A
What You Put Out Is What You Get Back
By PHILOMENA DALY
Dear Readers:
In my never-ending quest for new insights on the use of the tarot, I recently came across a wonderful book by leading British Columbia psychic, Norma Cowie, called The Tarot for Successful Living. I thought it most appropriate to share with you the information containted about the human psyche and its relation to tarot. Don't forget to write with any questions you may have, I'm always glad to hear from you.

When you encounter negative forces in operation in your life, it is not enough to recognize that is a negative situation, as this leads to unhappiness. We must know where these forces originate. They come from you and I. They are generated by our thought patterns — thoughts which are released from the subconscious.
Much has been written about the subconscious and conscious mind: but there are actually three minds, the third being the superconscious. The subconscious mind contains memory, emotions and psychic abilities. It is a powerful mind, which likes to be in control. Therefore, it becomes very important that you understand the subconscious mind and how it works. Everything you have seen, heard or thought is stored within this mind
It is a person's responsibility to make certain they put into the subconscious mind positive
thinking and reactions. As the emotions are also housed there and create the psychic energy you use, it is important to bring your emotions under control, so your psychic self can work for you, not against you.
The thoughts and feelings of the subconscious mind are projected upwards towards the conscious mind, and create your day-today reality. The subconsicous mind has no control over these, and it is the utilization of the conscious mind which brings the control. You can utlize the conscious mind to make sure the thoughts and feelings being projected from the subconscious mind are going to work positively for you.
The conscious mind is your reasoning mind. As the thoughts are projected from the subconscious mind onto your conscious mind, you reason them out. If you are not reasoning, then your subconscious mind is in control. Your emotions, desires and random though patterns control
your life. A person who does utilize their conscious mind usually acts without thought and their actions often bring them disaster, rather than rewards. The symbol of the devil represents this state of mind.
The superconscious mind is the higher self, where strength, joy love and the higher vibrations of life are found. By using your conscious mind to control the subconscious mind, through inspiration, the energy raises you to your higher self. This is done mostly through affirmations, prayer and meditation.
As you become more versatile in obtaining your superconscious mind, higher vibration thought patterns become part of the subconscious mind. Also, as you gain control over your thought patterns, you are better able to correct negative thinking. Eventually, the subconscious mind is brought completely under control and is full of positive, happy thoughts and the life becomes a happy, full life.
A person who does not utilize their conscious mind usually acts without thought and their actions often bring them disaster. Tarot can be used as a tool, a guide to help you understand conditions around you. Use it wisely and it will serve you well. •

MANX
Researching the Isle of Man
By EUNICE ROBINSON
One of my more interesting branches stems from the Isle of Man. Although located in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland, the Island of Man is not part of the United Kingdom but is a Crown possession which is largely self-governing.
The government is the Tynwald Court. This consists of an upper house called the Council and a lower house called the House of Keys, similar to the English style of government.
The history of the Isle of Man is very interesting and I would strongly suggest purchasing a good map of the island once you embark on your research.
When researching Manx records, a familiarity with English, Irish and Scottish record keeping is an asset. Civil registration of births, marriages and deaths started in 1878 which is
much later than the other countries. The information contained on the various documents is much the same as those found in records from the United Kingdom countries. Fortunately, the records are written in English, however, you should be aware that there is a Manx language.
The civil records are held in the possession of the Chief Registrar, General registry, Douglas, Isle of Man. This office does not undertake family history searches but will supply certified copies of extracts upon receipt of sufficient information for a small fee. This office will provide the correct forms for requesting the records and the cost involved. It should be noted that the Isle of Man has its own postage stamps and currency.
There are also church records which are held in the custody of the Chief Registrar and fees also apply to these records. The
dominant religion is Church of England. Baptismal records date from 1611 and are on file until 1878. Marriage records extend from 1629 to the present date. Burial records cover from 1610 to 1878. Records of dissenters' marriages covering 1849 to date are also on file.
Unfortunately, there is no indexing in the pre-civil registration records and this can be time consuming to research. Roman Catholic records date from 1817 and are in the Catholic Church, Douglas, Isle of Man. Non-conformist records from 1800 are located in various local chapels. No central list or index is available.
