Lord, how beautiful is your world — your creation — the harmony of the skies, the seasons, the trees, the flowers, the birds, the animals. You have made us responsible for them all — to use but not abuse. Yet we, your people, find it so hard to live in peace

follow Your way. You said it is a way of love. Seems we can't do it by ourselves. Why? Ah yes, we are not creators, we are creatures. "When all else fails, follow the instructions of the Maker."

The month's peace prayer was provided by Father Mohan of St. Augustine's Church, 2015 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C.
ODE TO JESSIE (MCCOMBIE) BARNES
And westwardly, across the waters,
Tales of Troon you once spun Rain in my mind like the storm Outside of the window through which
Your pale eyes would gleam To the horizon bearing the ships Out beyond the gentle pier That bowed before you each day And finally, the world, like you, Would slumber under the faintly shining stars.
We are all children
Travelling a train through the
heather
Of our sweet and distant lost homeland
A boon wind to carry our dreams From the land to the sea Where we at last reach the shores of Scotland
Lies the land of legends and cloudy hills —
Standing tall, we can see our brothers waving.
A shower of roses, a scent on the wind,
The war you lived through Still only happily a misty memory As among those story-hungry chil-dren
You spread your arms wide to the
northern sea
And begin another story.
Where Troon left off, a new land
rises
Filled with hope, boundless energies,
And people with the children of your imagining.

Support our Paper Celebrate the Harvest
By MAURA McCAY
A second year has passed for The Celtic Connection and as we head full force Gael into the Celtic New Year, we pause to reflect for a moment on recent times and the past year.
We have seen some very rough weather this season, but somehow, in spite of everything we have survived. Last year at this time, we held a first anniversary celebration and partially as a result of that fantastic turnout, we were able to continue publishing through another year.
So many people contact us to tell us why they feel Celtic and connected to The Celtic Connection. Frequently, it is their desire to connect with our own roots, our heritage, our people.
The prime objective of The Celtic Connection is to give voice to that culture through the publication of news and views and providing, in the broadest sense, an overview of events and news items of interest.
This year, we need your support more than ever. Come out and celebrate our second anniversary at the Celtic Harvest Celebration, at The Scottish Cultural Centre on Friday, October 15 at 8 PM.
Entertainment will be provided by Kevin Dooley, some local tra-ditional musicians, the Paper-
boys, and a grand finale by the RealMc-Kenzies. David Sharkey from Dublin will MC the night and all proceeds will go towards supporting The Celtic Connection for another year. For details please see page seven.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that, beginning this month, we have substantially increased our distribution base. Great Pacific News will be distributing The Celtic Connection through a much larger distribution area in the Lower Mainland.
I urge everyone who reads The Celtic Connection to support our advertisers. These business people and entrepreneurs give us the monthly support we require to continue bringing you all things Celtic. Also, if you read about it in The Celtic Connection, tell them you saw it here.
Please purchase the newspaper, tell your friends about The Celtic Connection and, if possible, subscribe.
Enjoy and thanks for your continued support and interest. If you wish to convey your thoughts or special interests, please don't hesitate to send us a note, we're always delighted to hear from you.
Until next month,
