Missing turns
LONDON - A 90-year-old war veteran found in Normandy after being reported missing from his care home in England said he made the journey to see the "first class show" - and plans to do it again next year.
Bernard Jordan was reported missing by staff at The Pines care home in Hove, Sussex, after embarking on his cross-channel trip for the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
The former mayor of Hove left The Pines in the early morning of June 6 wearing a grey mac and a jacket underneath with his war medals on, Sussex Police said.
Officers began searching the area, including checking hospitals in case something had happened to him, and spoke to bus and taxi companies, but none of them knew where he was.
Jordan made his way to the ferries where he shared hugs, dances and songs with a Forties style vocal harmony trio called The Candy Girls on his way to the Normandy commemoration.
The Candy Girls have been providing entertainment on the crossings for Brittany Ferries and hit it off with Bernie when they sang his favourite song You Are My Sunshine.

Bernard told the entertainers about his wartime heroics, which included diving to a sunken German submarine to salvage a decoder which helped identify other enemy vessels.
The mission earned the ex-Royal Navy officer a medal.
However The Candy Girls did not know the full story until they got to port and checked their phones - by which time Bernie was gone.
The nursing home received a phone call from a younger veteran from Brighton at 10:30 PM who said he had met Jordan on a coach on the way to France and that they were safe and well in a
hotel in Ouistreham.
Earlier reports said the veteran was banned from travelling to Normandy to attend the ceremonies, but a representative for the nursing home said that was "definitely not the case," according to the Press Association.
Brittany Ferries said Jordan enjoyed a hearty breakfast of bacon, two fried eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee during the seven-hour crossing.
The company has confirmed that he has been adopted as their honorary veteran and would be given free crossings to the D-Day commemorations for the rest of his life.
Cheers to 25 Years!!
