VANCOUVER — The Rogue Folk Club continues to offer some of the finest folk music from around the world to appreciative fans. In November, more great Celtic concerts are offered in town than you can shake a shillelagh at!
Uilleann piper Liam O'Flynn, Clare fiddler Martin Hayes, Scots singer Andy M. Stewart, Canadian Celtic rockers Rawlins Cross and renowned Scots folk group, Battlefield Band all play at Rogue sponsored events this month.
It all starts on November 11 at The W.I.S.E. Hall (1882 Adanac Street) with legendary Irish piper Liam O'Flynn. One of the formative members of Planxty in the early Seventies, O'Flynn played along with Christy Moore and Andy Irvine.
Since then, he has recorded and performed with a huge variety of traditional, classical and contemporary pop artists and worked on numerous soundtracks (Cal, A River Runs Through It, Kidnapped, etc.) In the Nineties, he released two superb solo CD's on Ireland's Tara Records, Out to Another Side and The Given Note.
Among the artists who joined him on those recordings were keyboardist Rod McVey and guitarist Arty McGlynn. They will accompany O'Flynn in his first concert in Vancouver, on Remembrance Day.
Arty McGlynn's considerable credits include playing with Van Morrison and recording with Patrick Street and Four Men & A Dog.
On November 14, former Silly Wizard singer Andy M. Stewart — one of Scotland's most respected traditional signers — plays at the W.I.S.E. Hall with Irish guitarist Gerry O'Beirne

On November 25, Rawlins Cross, a fiery Celtic rock band with members from Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, play North Vancouver's Centennial Theatre (2300 Lonsdale).
On November 27, it's Scotland's legendary Battlefield Band at the Scottish Cultural Centre (8886 Hudson Street).

Catholic Group
Withdraws from Concert
DUBLIN — Trocaire has withdrawn from the organizing committee of a commemorative concert for Ken Saro-Wiwa because Sinead O'Connor is one of the artists taking part.
In a statement, the Catholic third world development agency said that it could not be involved because of the singer's anti-Catholic stance in the past.
Trocaire is concerned that it might lose the support of those who were upset when O'Connor tore up a picture of the Pope at a concert in New York some years ago. — The Irish Emigrant
Cranberries Cancel Tour
DUBLIN—The Cranberries have cancelled their upcoming European tour due to the ill-health of singer Dolores O'Riordan which recently forced the abandonment of partof aU.S. tour. Itis thought unlikely that the band will perform live again for the next 18 months. — The Irish Emigrant
Collins Film
Creates Controvery
DUBLIN — Neil Jordan's eagerly-awaited new film Michael Collins continues to provoke controversy.
A number of high-profile writers and historians have been contributing their views to the debate over the film, which does not actually open until November 8.
Special screenings for cinema owners in the North took place last week, in order to allow them to decide if screening the film might provoke disturbances in the wake of the IRA bomb in Lisburn.
In the Republic, advance bookings dating back from the past month have inspired predictions of broken box-office records and phenomenal attendances.
