Very special birthday greetings to Jack Wallace on his 85th birthday on February 6. Jack is a third generation newspaperman. He worked for many years for Hearst Newspapers where he redesigned numerous publications. Upon his arrival in Vancouver, he redesigned The Vancouver Sun. Jack was the first editor and designer of The Celtic Connection and he is responsible for much of the look and feel of this publication. It is largely due to his wisdom, guidance, experience and patience that The Celtic Connection survived the early turbulent years. Happy birthday Jack, may you celebrate many more!

Prayer on St. Valentine's Day February, 14
Lord of heaven, You are known as the God of love.
And today we are celebrating St. Valentine one of the human patrons of love.
Teach me how to make use of the gift of love that you have given us. Let me love you above all and others in and for you. Make me faithful to my loved ones, loyal, dedicated, compassionate, and concerned.
Let me overlook their human failings and dwell on their good points. Enable me to love them not so much for what they can do for me
but for what I can do for them.

When asked some of her most vivid memories were over the past 100 years, Granny said " I will never forget the day the Black and Tans came into our home and pointed their guns at me and my family." (The Black and Tans were a British Army auxiliary force which terrorized Ireland in the 1920's after they were sent in to suppress a rebellion. They were called the Black and Tans because of the colour of their uniforms.)
